Paved trail along the Animas River

I am not sure how far this trail goes but understand the it is many miles. I walked along the River just west of town , beautiful scenery and easy walk.

Beautiful paved trail follows the Animas River through Durango. Share the trail with hikers, children, pets, and bicycles. Short sections can be done or longer section. You are never very far from civilization. Narrow guage railroad runs very near tail in places.

Everything in Durango is set to a beautiful backdrop, but it is wonderful that you do not have to leave town to have a great walk along the river. A perfect spur of the moment or after dinner walk to just enjoy life.

We were kind of pooped, wanted to do something, but didn't want to go far. This trail was the perfect choice. It was just a short walk from downtown, ran right along the river, and a lot of it is shaded by trees. It is a concrete trail the heads both north and south from downtown, it is an easy... More

This trail follows the beautiful Animas River that goes through Durango. It's a really easy trail with not a lot of hills for a relaxing walk along the river.

This trail is great for running. It's relatively flat, a few ups and downs but nothing significant. It is paved and in great shape, most of the way. Well, that is from 32nd Street down 4 1/2 miles. Didn't do the entire trail. There is a bathroom at about 3 1/2 miles if needed. The scenery is wonderful. We ran... More

We had a nice walk with our pet. The trail started just a block away from our hotel, and went along the river to downtown.

This a a fun path to walk, but mind the hot sun in the summer as in many places there is little shade. People on bikes tend to be pretty well behaved and with dogs on leads it makes things easy.

We were able to run these trails every morning during our stay in Durango. As some people have commented they're not really marked very well so if you're not from the area it's pretty easy to get somewhat lost in a neighborhood or two but I personally thought that was kind of fun. There are little dirt trails that branch... More

This is another hiking trail that is close to town. ALL cement or black top for easy walking or biking.
