One of the highlights of our stay in the area was the river trail. Saw wildlife and this is a definite recommended activity. Not sure of the trail south because we round -trip walked the section from downtown to 32nd street bridge a couple of times.

Rented some bikes and took our 1 yr old and 5 year old for a 4hr bike ride. There are so many shops and restaurants along the way. Trail is nice and clean with entrances to the river. This is a must do in Durango. We are actually planning to move there!

This trail is slowly expanding north and east of town along the Animas river. Great place to stroll, to access the river, to find a quiet, headed spot for a picnic lunch. Easily accessible throughout town -- just look for the river and you'll find the trail!

We liked that we got a little taste of town while walking along this neatly kept trail. Nice mix of locals and out-of-towners making use of the space.

Twenty years ago, the river was a dumping ground, since then, it's been transformed into a local treasure. Whether you stroll for a few minutes, plan a long walk, bicycle from one end to the other, or just sit, your time won't be wasted. It's really lovely. Enjoy!

Wide, clean and well maintained. Goes through much of Durango so there is lots to see. It was especially nice to view the Animas River nearly the entire time and we enjoyed the points of interest along the eay

A wonderful way to see Durango by bike. The paved path is suited for all ages. If you have the endurance, take the path from start to finish and back again!

The trail is crowded with walkers, bikers, joggers...and for good reason. It's the perfect location for all those things. Great views!

Took kids on a walk down the river. It was great. The trails are great and family friendly. Its a developed walkway with a playground for kids. There are walkways down to the river. You can take your shoes off and place your feet in the water.

What a great experience! Do this in your high clearance vehicle or contact one of the tour companies in Silverton that offer jeep tours. Do not try this in a car. We drove it in our Tundra. It is worth the bumpy to semi-bumpy ride. The ghost town at the end is like stepping back in time, and the scenery... More
