GREAT for easy going bicycling

GREAT bicycle ride. Super scenery, only slight inclines. Nice and cool, even in August. Good way to see the river up close.

The bike/walk trail along the Animas River keeps growing in length. Currently the trail runs about 7 miles from one end of Durango, through town, to the south (east) end. This is a popular venue for bikers, walkers, moms, kids and in the fall you might see a bear or two as well though they're no danger to you. Keep... More

It is a 7 mile paved trail for walkers, bikers and runners. At the southern end is the Chamber of Commerce visitors bureau in a small park which has a steam engine used to haul silver and gold ore on the narrow gauge railroad from the San Juan Mountain mines. It is also the one they claim was the Hooterville... More

Rented bikes to ride on the Animas River Trail. Beautiful ride, fairly level, and a nice way to see Durango. Most of the ride was shaded so on a fairly hot August day, we were comfortable.

I had started this review nearly a year ago, then I just forgot to finish but seeing how the Animas River has been so sorely damaged by clumsy humans I was reminded. My original review would have told you about the stunning scenery, the solitude, the quote rippling of the river on a kayak or raft trip, the endless peaceful... More

Purely by accident, we found the Animas River Trail in Durango, Colorado. You can hear the rippling water as you meander walk, run or bike with the river. Also, Animas River runs through Farmington, NM and while staying there we took advantage of that trail system for walking.

Nice respite from downtown hustle and bustle. Delightful views, short easy walk, interesting bridges offer a good view of the river and surrounding mountains.

Great for walking and casual biking, my husband and I have ridden this trail several times. We like to park at Santa Rita Park and then either head north or south. Riding along the river is so relaxing and fairly cool if you head north. The entire trail is seven miles long. If you park at Santa Rita, that's about... More

Looking for a family bike ride with teenagers, we biked the trail. It was a great trail, but very short and poorly marked. Not sure why the trail does not extend along the river or along the train tracks. Rented bikes for a half day and it only took an hour.

We were looking forward to walking this trail but were rather disappointed. We found that much of the stretch we covered was alongside a very busy highway. In addition there were construction works going on that resulted in a detour over a car park. Not very scenic.
