Worth the money. Only downside is the ride to Silverton and back is a bit too long. Our train departed late due to a problem with the locomotive so we didn't return until well after 8p. That said, still a beautiful trip and would recommend.

We have been on this train many times and plan to ride again. The old steam locomotive gets us up the mountain and down again. Unless we have grand kids with us, we ride the adults only car. Very comfortable.

We are small budget vacationers and for the most part we avoid "touristy" things. This was definitely expensive for our family of 6 and was very touristy BUT it was worth the money! We had a great day! We took the 8:00 am round trip train which meant an early start for us. Book the open car (gondola), without question!... More

We enjoyed some of the most beautiful and historic sites of the Rockies. The train experience is educational and inspirational. We will go again.

Great fun. My wife and I stopped in for just a few minutes to get in out of the heat. OK, the few minutes turned into two hours. I felt like a kid again with all the excellent train displays.

Quaint old historic train.very slow and it was hot and uncomfortable the day we went. The views of the rivers and gorges were fabulous and the train was probably the only way to see most of them. Glad I did it once but probably wouldn't again.

We absolutely loved the train ride. We rode the train there, and then bused back. That's the way to do it! The train ride is 3.5 hours and so that would be 7 hours total on a train that day, and the ride back is the same as the ride there. So we were very glad we bused back. We... More

We took the 9:30 bus to Silverton and rode the 1:45 train back, which was just enough time to have lunch and see some of the sights. We could have used more time in Silverton. The train is one of those things you should do at least once. I don't know where else you can ride a steam locomotive on... More

Great scenic trip. I would recommend taking part of the trip with the bus if you have small children. It can be a very long day taking the train both ways.

The trip from Durango to Silverton via railroad is awesome! There's a choice of fares based upon the car you choose to ride. Best views are from the cheap seats in the open-air gondola cars. Ride the right side to Silverton. Not cheap, but worth doing at least once in your life. The trip each way is 3 1/2 hours.... More
