Unique experience! Enjoyed the Parlor Car comfort, staff and beauty. DSNGR employees excel in people skills as well as keeping everyone safe. We had a slight derailment that was handled quickly, efficiently and without stress. No doubt Silverton is the location of Northern Exposure's Cecily, Alaska! No moose, but lots of elk moving thru town. A big THANK YOU to... More

The four hour train ride is a must. The scenery was breathtaking. I would do it again. I rode on an open car. This is crucial if you take pictures.

Enjoyable experience, very enjoyable scenery except for the part of the trip where you leave / enter Durango. It take a little while to actually start climbing the mountain, and that's where the trip gets interesting. We were scheduled to take the train up to Silverton and return to Durango by bus, but the bus got snowed in (on May... More

I took the round trip option from Durango to Silverton and back again. I booked a few weeks in advance and chose the outside carriage and crossed fingers that the weather would be ok on the day. Depart time is early around 8:15 I think and you arrive at Silverton just before 12:30. Regardless what carriage you choose make sure... More

... and I had many. We rode back and forth in an open gondola car. A bit chilly if you are not properly dressed, but the view is so much better! They turn the train around so that, without changing seats, you see both sides. The landscape is stunning, the train is beautiful, the crew is nice, and the towns... More

I wasn't sold on the Railroad trip to start with, but glad we did it. I would recommend the car with the narrator. We road the train up and the bus back, I would probably do that because you're getting tired toward the end of the day. You don't have a lot of time in Silverton, so be sure to... More

unless you're really trying to kill a whole day, take the bus up and then ride the train back down. It's a great trip with a lot of cool views. Be prepared to get sooty.

Great, experience, scenery was stunning, I would strongly suggest reserving a seat in the glass domed Private car. A lot of free extras and no kids or other passenger traffic wandering thru the car.
