Wonderful, fun and full of "postcard" views! Silverton was neat! Interesting year round resident artists!

My wife and I retired at the end of last year, and are taking our "Great Western Adventure". One of the high lights so far in our month long journey was a ride on the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad - What a delight. We were in the "Club Car" which was great for a number of reasons: we... More

I spent some time in Durango, I stayed at the General Palmer Hotel, a splendid 'Wild West' find of place. They recommended the Railroad ride up to Silverton, an old mining town some distance higher up in the foothills of the Rockies. The ride takes a while, but the journey is stunning. A ride that is not visible, except for... More

Not only is the ride through some of the U.S.'s most beautiful scenery, but the service is memorably cordial, informative, and enthusiastic. We rode in the Parlor Car, a worthwhile splurge, for we got to hang off the back for even better views along with no cinder comfort. The ride came with mementos, cookies, and non-alcoholic drinks as well. Heather,... More

My wife and I took the open car. The trip took 3.5 hours one way 1.75 hours to look around Silverton. Riding on the train both ways because the views are hard to put into words you actually need to see them for yourself. We travel both ways on the train and trust me the views coming back were just... We can't say enough about how wonderful this tour is! We booked the Silver Vista car. It is an open car with a glass roof and we could see everything! There is so much to see that you don't want to be caught in a closed in, dark car. The weather was perfect. We did need jackets, but that wasn't... More

Saw beautiful canyons. When 1/2 way to Soaring (a zip line adventure). Would recommend only one way on the train, as it's slow and you get the point after a few hours.

Why did I wait to write a review about this amazing railroad. This train ride had too much beauty left and right, and that's just the small trip that didn't go all the way to Silverton. The southwest of Colorado is an area of beautiful landscapes, raging rivers, and stops where one can picnic for a while until it's time... More

This railroad, probably one of the oldest narrow gauge railroad in the U.S. provides the time of your life. The ride is well worth your cost. The round trip takes 7 hours...3 1/2 each way. The views are spectacular. Bring a camera, dress in layers. The altitude is high and can be chilly. The train provides a refreshment /bar car,... More
