Best movie theater popcorn in Denver. Maybe the world!

Where else do you get Art Deco meets ancient, extinct civilization design? And their popcorn is the best IMHO. Great arthouse movies, awesome popcorn, mixed drinks, displaced hipsters. What more could a movie geek want?

The place is definitely "historic" in some of its features - like the closet-sized restroom with a urinal viewed from the popcorn line in the lobby - but go immediately to the Mayan if you've never been there before. Don't wait and look up movies - get down there now! It's worth it and if you don't like the movie... More

If you've not enjoyed eclectic cinema while sipping Das Bog coffee or Mighty Leaf tea, munching a pastry or popcorn in this landmark movie house, you've missed a very special Denver movie experience. A regular favorite for many, now better for the new seats.

Someone had told me about an Independant film showing here at the Mayan. Didn't have any trouble finding parking. Reasonable price for Sunday afternoon movie. Ticket agent greeted me very nice and made sure I knew which door to take. Once inside, had to go upstairs. Right before the movie started a young man came in to give us a... More

The Mayan was only about 3 miles from Castle Marne where we were staying while visiting friends for a week. We used to live in Denver and this was always a great place to take in an independent movie. We had a good time, once again.

I really support the films that Landmark Theatres bring to Denver. They keep older historic theatres like the Mayan alive, they have great drinks and concessions, and wonderful films. BUT, the seats are completely worn out. I can barely get through an hour and a half show without running screaming out of the theatre. I am tall, so it must... More

It's mostly shows independent or art films. Though they are now part of the "Landmark" chain they still retain the fun "non-mall" vibe.

Great, classic theatre. The staff is awesome, the movies are great (and usually you cannot see their movies anywhere else around town) and they have a bar. A real bar. Man... I miss the Mayan!

Great staff, all are movie buffs, and really nice!! Cheap dood fun in a great 'walking around to explore' neighborhood.

We saw a matinee of Moonrise Kingdom during our recent trip to Denver. The ticket prices were reasonable ($7.50/person), the staff was delightful, the popcorn was popped on site, and there were no annoying people at the movie. Everyone watched attentively (no texting, fidgeting, talking) and applauded when they were done. The best movie experience I've had in a long... More
