I love the Mayan Theater on Broadway. The film selection is always limited, focusing on independent and foreign films. Which of course is great, getting you away from the normal movie theater crowds. The theater is styled with Mayan décor, and in the actual screening area you feel like you're in an old big city movie theater or a Broadway... More

The MAYAN is a classic old school theatre with all the charm of the way theatres used to be, paired with the modern technology of digital projection and sound! Its the best of both worlds! And with a staff that's over the top 1st rate! This is 1st class cinema! When you go, give yourself extra time to look around!... More

This is a Landmark theater, so it mostly shows art/independent movies. It's often the only place where you can see some movies, especially foreign or obscure ones. The old balcony has been converted into two small theaters, and the seating there is very good pretty much anywhere. There can be, occasionally, some sound bleed-through, but it's usually not an issue.

Denver is blessed with quite a few art movie houses that show thoughtful films outside of mainstream. Landmark's Mayan, Esquire and Chez Artiste are great. The staff are super-friendly and their popcorn is the best in town. Plus a full bar. This is a winner.

My wife and I went and saw Birdman here and I have to say that the theater is a great experience. It is very retro and makes me feel like I am a kid again. It you are looking for perfect sound, perfect hd etc...this may not be the theater that you want to go to. If you looking for... More

I always forget that the Mayan is as wonderful in the inside as on the outside; Amazing Art Deco theater on National Register of Historic Places; specializes in independent and best of all films; has a full bar on the upstairs with reasonable prices; very friendly and accommodating staff

Very Menver and wacky architecture for the setting. I'm sure a local historian has a great explanation for it. Odd little find that plays great art/independent films to keep the South Broadway scene alive and open-minded and liberated.

Visit this movie theater in central Denver. The Mayan was built in 1930. In the 1980's it was almost torn down, but rescued by a group - Friends of the Mayan. In the 1980's it was restored. Its architectural style is Art Deco Mayan Revival. There are 3 theaters, a snack bar, a small bar area upstairs. It specializes in... More

This is a very old theater which has been remodeled to look exactly like it looked in its hey day. The seating however, has been made more comfortable and raked a little.

The Mayan is one of my favorite old cinemas. It's intimate which is perfect for viewing independent films. The owners have taken care of the historic building which brings a rich nostalgia to your experience.
