This museum is packed with the rich history of the mining era. The staff make all the difference. They were very informative and pleasant to visit with. If you are doing research on the area or just family history - inquire about their collection of materials. Lots of valuable information.

Wonderful area museum on three floors of the old railway station. If you are into history or the unusual, it's a must see. From the skull top of a murder victim to the wooden headstone of a well-loved (pun intended) local madam to gold mining and railway lore, colorful past denizens of the area, it's worth at least an hour.... We toured the old jail and read reviews from people who claimed to have seen the ghosts that "haunt" the building. We spent over two hours walking around and taking pictures.

Love the architecture of the old building, seeing how a depot was actually set up 100 years ago, the process of getting on the train and standing where people stood was an amazing experience. Lots of info and artifacts on the mining town in it's hay day.

There is definitely history here but unless you want gamble, there is NO other reason to stop. Cripple Creek is nothing more than a gambling city without the Vegas flair.

We really enjoyed this museum but wish we had more time, we got in a little late. There are also a couple more buildings to view on this museum self guided tour. We have heard that Cripple Creek is haunted and we did experience a couple of interesting things, one as described below. We had just gone into this museum... More

I learned so very much in a couple of hours. Cripple Creek still produces over 1 million dollars in gold per day. Many famous people worked in the mines. A must for history buffs.

Went through this waiting for the narrow gauge rail trip. The museum was fine. Great service and very informative. I didn't know Cripple Creek was such a rich Gold Strike.

Local museums can be hit or miss. Some -- such as the one at Gunnison, Colorado -- are superb. Others are close to being a waste of time. As local museums go, this one is quite good. The displays in the assay office are the least interesting; this needs to be redone. The displays in the main building -- and... More
