One of the last natural barrier beach and dunes on the East coast. Wild horses, awesome camping spots and not far from lots of stuff around the bays and the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD.We go car camping there every summer. The only downside sometimes are the mosquitoes so bring deet.

It's a typical shore resort town on Chincoteague, with the usual attractions, but we had a great room with a view of the bay. The beach was beautiful, the nature park was quiet. My husband and I walked along the beach enjoying the sounds of the surf.

Just want to warn others that it appears that they put soap in that portable Johnny on the spot at the parking lot at the entrance to the Wildlife Drive in the park on the Southern End of Assateague Island ....where there's both National Seashore and Wildlife Refuge. What a mess ...and no where to wash it off! But well... More

This is a beautiful, pristine beach. There is parking right at the beach as well as changing rooms and showers to get the sand off. The beach is peaceful and nice for families. This beach does not get nearly as crowed as other beaches we have been to. We return here year after year.

We went for a day trip from Virginia to assateague in Maryland. About 3 hours peaceful drive on a sunday morning. When we got there around 10 AM- we already saw horses by the beach and walking around the park. The white sand was soft and water.. Well just like any oceans in the east coast. Don't expect the water... More

After seeing the wild horses on Corolla, NC last summer, I went to see the famous "Misty of Chincoteague" wild horses on Assateague Island. The ads in brochures and websites show people walking around the horses on the beach, etc. However....and I don't know how long this has been the case, but it appears to have been quite a few... Checked out the beach for sunset. It wasn't overly crowded at that time, with a few bonfires going and a few people fishing and hanging out. Water was pretty cold, so no one was in the water at the time I was there. Watch out for mosquitos!!! They'll carry you away! Didn't see any horses right on the beach, but... More

The beach was wonderful but it was very crowded and the parking lot was full early. I was happy they had multiple restrooms and a few outdoor showers.

We love going to Assateague Island! We go to the Virginia side by way of Chincoteague Island! The ponies in the distance. Clean, natural coast line! Very Family orientated. No carnival atmosphere. Nature center, Toms Cove and the Lighthouse are also on this end of the Island! Absolutely gorgeous views wherever you go, but the view from the lighthouse will... More
