If you are looking for t-shirt shops, restaurants and bars - go elsewhere! This natural beach is clean, uncluttered and relaxing. Although there was a small car entrance fee because it is a National Park, it was well worth it! Passed some of the famous wild Chincoteague ponies on the drive to the beach, which only added to the experience!

Went early am as it was the holiday weekend. Not very crowded and by the time we were leaving they closed the parking lot due to it being full. Clean beach and felt safe with the lifegaurds!

It was my first time camping. I decided to camp at Assateague because it is camping on the beach with wild horses. The beach is beautiful and the camp grounds are kept well. We did experience the horses trying to get into our food tent while we were sleeping. It wasn't a problem, after the horses figured out they couldn't... More

Like everyone says the beach is beautiful and huge. You can walk for seeming miles and people bike on paths. Plenty of lifeguards. Clean rest rooms and a nature center. We did see ponies but they were never that close. We did have to maneuver around piles of manure in the parking lot tho. Reminds me of more isolated places... More

Be sure to leave early, as this park fills up fast during the summer season! There is plenty of beach access, the beaches are very clean, and there are some nice trails to explore. The best part of the island are the wild ponies that are mingling among you. The park staff keep an eye out for the safety of... More

This beach is truly a gem. So close to OC but a world away in attitude. The State Park is so large that it never feels crowded. Plentiful parking and restrooms. Clean ocean, white beach , gentle dunes set against a blue sky--- a perfect day!! The wild ponies just complete the picture. Saw them right over the bridge on... More

The beach was crowded with colorful umbrellas, people flying kites and throwing frisbees, while the drive in and out afforded gorgeous views of the bay, the famous wild ponies, and the other wildlife found on the island.

I love this beach! I go every year to Assateague. This is the best beach. It has great parking and just a short walk to the water. There are plenty of life guards, they're friendly and are very professional. They take their job seriously and you can tell. There is no goofing off with them. So you can relax and... More

We enjoyed Assateteague National Seashore. Pretty beach - though water was rough during our visit. I had hoped to see some wild horses and technically we did from a great distance. Good thing we had quality binoculars! Someone recommended the van tour b/c it accesses a service road close to where the horses hang out. Unfortunately it was booked. So... More

This beach was beautiful and did not have the overly crowded touristy feel of places like Virginia beach. the wildlife and the trails and the ponies and the nature centers. Would definitely come back again and again and again!
