Beach horses

Great beach when you want to get away from all the noise at Ocean City. If you're lucky you'll get to see some of the beach horses out for a walk.

Great views, and ponies running free all around, great place to check out if visiting Ocean City, Maryland, not too far away, and easy to get to. Can ride around park or walk, but watch all the bugs, can get quite much at times and depending on the time of year as well!

We love this place. BUT over the years we have learned a few things: 1. Reserving a site has become insane. Most people sit at a computer on opening day waiting to reserve the site they want, because the parks (both State and National) fill up so fast. July and August get filled VERY quickly. Even so, 2. AVOID the... More

We did see the wild horses and we did enjoy white sand beaches. the parking was hard but it could have been worse. i don't remember whether there was food on the beach so definitely pack a meal. there are also playground equipment but they got too hot in the heat.

Wander the beaches and dunes uncluttered by all the commercial trappings of Ocean City to the north, the beach is under NPS guidance.

The National Park and Wildlife Refuge on Assateague Island is a great place for immersing oneself in nature. We enjoy driving, walking, and biking along the many paths in the woods, along the marshes and along the shoreline. There's a lighthouse to climb, interesting educational displays at the Visitor's Center to see, and diverse wildlife to view -especially the famous... More

I am a mosquito magnet and literally had over 30 bites in the five minutes before some kind gentleman took pity on me and offered me some spray. Besides the massive amount of itching, Assateague Beach was stunning. The ponies came so close and we even saw dolphins as we sat on the beach. An old shipwreck added even more... More

Chincoteague's Horseshoe Drop at midnight New Year's Eve followed by the Pony Polar Plunge at 1 p.m. the next day make unique ways to see in the new year! Our 9-and-15-year-olds loved it all. We started with a good seafood dinner at AJ's by the Creek on Chincoteague (AJ's last day of the season is always New Year's Eve --... More

Visited in the winter. Very quiet relaxing. The horses were not active at that time of year only saw a few. Very natural setting will go back again. Wish we could have seen more of the horses.

Imagine visiting an unspoiled natural beach just a few miles from Ocean City and Rehobeth beach. If your timing is good you can watch rockets blasting off (or exploding). There is also a round up of wild horses once a year. The round up draws a huge number of tourists.
