Visisted July 28, 2009, and enjoyed the drive up to the top. However, beware that the drive is winding and there is not really a shoulder or guardrails along the route. The upper part of the drive was under construction so we drove in durt/mud and when almost at the top, we had to wait for the construction equipment to... more

To charge each passenger in our case (two) a toll to drive 19 miles to a deserted peak (the concession stand with the advertised donuts was closed during normal operating hours) and 19 miles back down again was a complete waste of time, gas, and money ! more

I thought I was going to die when we reached the peak. You MUST be prepared for the thin air. Take your time walking around. Drink lots of water. Stop along the way at the rest/picnic areas. Don't miss an inch of it. Don't ride your brakes on the way back down. There is a manditory stop where they check... more

I have been to the top of Pike’s Peak several times. My mom lives in Colorado Springs, so we have driven up by car, and we have taken the Cogwheel Train. The train ride is simpler, more accessible (I’m a little leery of driving those switchbacks). Simply reserve your seat in advance, drive to the depot in Manitou Springs (a... more

We drove to the top in the morning when the weather was clear with some clouds. Got to the top and the clouds moved in and it started drizzling and snowing a little (in July). I think the weather got really bad after we left, but after we got to the bottom about 30 minutes later, we could see the... more

This was a lot of fun! Regardless of the weather 'down below', dress warm! It was 75 degrees and sunny when we started our trip...but at the 3 mile mark (19 miles to the top) we stopped at a gift shop and bought a jacket because it was 30 degrees with an 18 wind chill at top!! But the drive... more
