The Pikes Peak Highway entrance is conveniently located 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24. The beauty of being so close to the city is that you can spend your time enjoying the mountain instead of getting to the mountains. Plan for your round trip journey to the summit to take 2-3 hours. The safe, scenic highway provides you the opportunity to enjoy Pikes Peak at your leisure. From the gateway at an elevation of 7,400 feet, you'll encounter some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world as you wind your way through an alpine wonderland of scenic beauty, mountain reservoirs, beyond timberline, overtaking the clouds...All along the way to the 14,115 foot summit of America's most famous mountain. Along the way, you'll discover the North Slope Recreation Area, Crystal Reservoir Gift Shop, Historic Glen Cove Inn, and the Summit House. There are three lakes for fishing, picnic areas, hiking trails, and breathtaking views. Stop and watch one of our "Meet the Ranger" Interpretive Programs and learn about the history, myths, flora and fauna on the mountain. All offer visitor services and basic necessities to make your day both enjoyable and memorable. « less

My wife and I took the journey to the top by car, it was a beautiful drive. Once we were above tree line, it was a little more of a white knuckle drive. I have to admit that I was even a little nervous going around some of those curves. We were both glad we did it though.

Still amazed that you are able to drive right to the top - some 14,000ft! Great views along the way. Be prepared for the change in altitude - you should still be able to breath okay but don't run about at the top if you get caught in a hailstorm like we did. Heed the signs about having at least... I grew up about 10 minutes from the Pikes Peak highway, so I took it for granted growing up. I've been out of high school for 8 years now, and I recently just returned and went up the highway. One thing I can say is that I appreciate it much more now, the views are just amazing. I definitely would... More

When we decided to head to Colorado Springs for the weekend Pikes Peak was a must visit for my husband and I. We booked a noon ride on the Cog Railway before our trip. Once arriving in Colorado Springs we did some research and decided against the Cog. Our big concern was not being able to stop when we felt... More

Beautiful drive up to Pikes Peak! Stopped and got out at a lot of points as we drove up...beautiful views all along the way and, of course, great views up at the top. We chose to not do the cog railway so we could enjoy the views as long as we wanted and not miss all of the stops on... More

On the way up I was panicking once we got above the tree line. On the way down I wasn't as nervous. We pulled over at many places to explore and take pics. It ticked me off that there was trash people had just left on the Mountain. Seriously people, don't litter the Mountain! Pieces of crap like that, need a lesson!

This was soooooooooooooooooooooo freaking scary on the way up but once you're at the top, it seems much easier on the way down. We rode our motorcycles and it was a BLAST! The gift shop at the top was really crowded, but the railway stops up there too, so there ended up being a lot of people there. Take pictures... More

A wonderful drive but not for the feint of heart. Had some very anxious moments, especially during the last 2000 feet, both up and down. The $40 price for our carload of 4 was too steep and while we enjoyed the view at the top, I would never pay that again.

We have always taken the Cog up to the top. This was my first time to drive up. It was $40 to take the drive (Cog would have been about $140 and 3 hours) and it took about 45 minutes each way to go up and down without stopping. This is a beautiful drive!! It was a little scary at... More
