It's kind of fun to find one of the short routes to this reservoir and recreation area and hike up to and around it. I've done this a few times, including twice on this trip to Breck, but admit that I've never seen the reservoir when the sun was shining since I've always had more interesting things I've wanted to... This little gem was recommended by a friend, a "local" here in Breck. I had my 4 year old daughter with me. It's easy to find, and you reach a gorgeous lake with a wonderful view. Great place!

This is definitely an easy hike...when you get there. We had a heck of a time getting there (walking from downtown Breck). Our maps on our phones were absolutely useless. The water is crystal clear and we spotted a few fish from shore. Going back we followed the Snowflake trail which was incredibly bumpy (with a jogging stroller), but much... More

The short hike to Sawmill Reservoir is a very nice experience for people of all ages. The lake is small, but the wooded setting is really quite attractive and photogenic. A welcome break from the busy streets of Breckenridge.

Easy hike slightly up hill to reach the reservoir . The path follows the water flow coming from the mountain with very nice spots for pictures. When you reach the reservoir there are picnic places and the kids and even adults if they feel like can WALK to the middle of the lake following a sand bank.

Easy, beautiful!! Bring your camera. Bugs are a little fierce, but kids can play on the beach and put their toes in the water.

Saw this walk on TripAdvisor and since it started right next to my lodging, couldn't resist. You can start right at the bottom of the 4 oclock chairlift. There are several little paths, but don't worry about getting lost, they all end up at the reservoir. Swift running stream to follow. The walk is easy. We even saw a bear... More

So when I booked our vacation I didn't realize that Breckenridge was located at 9,600 feet altitude and our resort was probably 10,500 feet. Since we live at about 2,000 feet we certainly felt the effects of the thin air. My husband, 8 year old son and I usually like to hike 4 to 6 miles at a time but... More

Ignore the picture and address listed. Look for the Breck. Outdoor Education Center to find the reservoir. Flat path all the way around. COSarah posted this under hiking in 2009 - "The Reservoir Trail & Sawmill Creek trail - Drive up Four O’Clock Rd (follow the signs for the BOEC) and park in the small parking lot near the gate...
