Chautauqua is the park area just south of downtown where you can find hikes of all difficulties and if you are a climber...well the Flatirons are where you are going. The parking lot fills up early so get there early on weekends and holidays. There is an information building with restrooms and a vending machine...water. Have not been to the... More

We hiked the Royal Arch hiking trail that begins in Chautauqua for the first time, and will definitely go back for repeat visits. The trail has some intermediate difficulty portions, and is a great workout. The views all along the trail are beautiful, and the arch and views from there do not disappoint. It is fairly busy in the summer... More

Great Auditorium with touring performers, nice restaurant, great hikes for different levels of ability and a great green lawn to just lie back and enjoy the view or have a picnice

They use to have a Sunday Brunch buffet and it was very good. They have done away with the Brunch and just have ordering off the menu. Not thrilled with the food. Food was much better when it was the buffet.

The Chautauqua area is probably one of the busiest in the Open Space and Mountain Parks system (they manage many of Boulder's hiking/open areas). The views of the Flatirons are beautiful and there are so many trails in the area that it isn't too hard to get away from the majority of people. Most of the hiking would be considered... More

Beautiful area to hike in. Trails are family friendly, and are perfect for a nice stroll after a long day at work.

So convenient to Boulder, a great place to get a taste for the outdoors! This was the first place that we went on a family hike for our out-west summer vacation. We have young elementary kids, I wish that we had chosen a more basic hike--some of the hillier flatiron loops are a little strenuous--we just took it slow! General... More

Being just outside of Boulder and the gateway to the Flatirons, Chautauqua is certainly beautiful. Royal Arch is my favorite hike. It is challenging and the destination is very rewarding. The major problem with Chautauqua is the crowds! If you are not contending with school day trips during the week you have to deal with the multitudes of hikers and... More

Rental homes are available that are cozy, warm and homey. Hiking trails and amazing mountain views are busy during the summer season, which can make parking a bear! Speaking of bears... rarely, but sometimes in the fall on the top of the mountain.

This is an absolutely fantastic hiking area. I took the summit trail to the top of Green Mountain (8,144') and hiked past the Flatirons, starting at the Chatauqua Ranger Cottage at 5,710'. If you do the Saddle Rock trail to the Greenman trail, you will get to see lots of wonderful views on your way up. Be warned though, this... More
