How did I live in the Bay Area all these years and not know about this place??? The estate and gardens are gorgeous! Interesting history, absolutely perfectly groomed formal gardens, stunning displays of flowers and art. The orchard, vegetable and cutting gardens are impressive too. It's a cornucopia of visual pleasures. I plan to go again in the spring. Be... More

I brag about this place to all of my friends. The volunteers were so friendly and helpful. The grounds were better than what I expected!!! So gorgeous and peaceful!! My boyfriends parents ended up going after they saw my pictures and they loved it as well, $18 per person and you get to tour around the house as well

The home was built between 1915 to 1917 and the gardens designed between 1917 to 1921. Filoli is a remarkable modified Georgian 36,000 square foot California Golden Age home. One of the many highlights is the ballroom, with its 22 1/2 foot ceilings and the Ernest Peoxotyo oil on canvas murals. The formal gardens and surrounding landscapes are beautiful. Filoli... More

The 2-hour Docent-guided tour of the house and gardens is a must if you're in the San Francisco area. Our docent was wonderful - gave us lots of facts and answered all our questions. Prior to our tour we enjoyed a delightful lunch in the Cafe....check out their decadent desserts! Take a step back into a more opulent era...visit Filoli... More

Just recently I had the opportunity to visit, for the first time, this beautiful house surrounded by its lovely gardens. At first I was dismayed by the large number of people waiting for the tour (at least 20), but, to my surprise, the group was immediately divided into several small groups, each with its own guide. Our guide, Sam, was... More

I have lived in the area since 1966, visited many of the fine homes/castles of the world, the mansions of Newport, Hearst Castle, the Vanderbilt Mansion in Asheville, etc. but never managed to get to Filoli until very recently. This 66,000 sq foot, 44 room home with extensive gardens (16 acres) may be modest in size by comparison but is... More

It was very well groomed and taken care of. The paths and types of plants made us want to look at them all. Everything was very beautiful. Wasn't too entertaining for an 8 year old. The first couple hours went by quick. But our time was dictated by the kiddos which was fine. Pretty much everywhere is stroller friendly. Cafe... More

All the other review have summed up the uniqueness of Filoli. I'm from England have have seen many truly great houses, but have lived in the Bay Area and have never heard of Filoli until a few weeks ago, and it up there with some of the great European houses. A lot smaller, but absolutely charming it was built by... More

This place is magical from the house to the grounds that surround it. The house has so much detail to view that it is hard to soak it in. The folks in the house have wonderful tales to tell of the house. Then you step outside to an array of color and smells. We had a great time wandering around... More

I actually learned about Filoli from a Groupon offer. Though I didn't buy the coupon, I made a mental note to drop by the next time I was in the area. I wasn't disappointed. My partner and I visited on a gorgeous sunny Saturday and spent quality time enjoying each other's company on strolling around the gardens. The huge mansion... More
