Just back from 6 day stay at Northstar. Stayed in the new Village (see separate Big Horn lodging review). Conditions were good, thanks to the recent snows. Found the mountain overall very fun - and yes, there was probably more flat than I liked on the Village run, but at least it was a wide flat versus a cat trail.... more

I skied at Northstar at the end of January, and have skied there five years ago and ten years ago. The base village was all new to me, since there was nothing at the base before. It is quite pretty, and nice, although its addition makes it a long hike from shuttle drop offs, parking and even the hotels to... more

My daughter and I went skiing the day after Christmas this year, 2008. The weather and snow conditions were good and it was crowded as expected. The ski resort, Northstar-at-Tahoe was not ready to handle the crowds or assure a pleasant or safe experience. We had to park at a very remote lot , about a mile or so from... more

I have skiied at Northstar at least 40 times in the last 15 years. They have a class system for everything from parking to lift lines, with preferential treatment for those who can afford to pay a surcharge. Parking is probably the worst I have seen in any ski resort. You have to park miles away, wait for a shuttle... more

It's hard to know if your kid will like to ski until you try it. NorthStar makes it a wonderful experience if you want to teach them yourself, which we did. First, the wait to rent skis was tolerable (even on a Saturday AM) for our four-year-old. Then, he enjoyed riding the gondola up the mountain and watching all of... more

Overall opinion of Northstar is that it is overrated and crowded - difficult to get situated if you're driving there - much easier if your staying at Northstar. Our family skiied Northstar a few days after Christmas, We had heard a lot of good things about Northstar from various people so we decided to try it out. We had skiied... more

We recently "tried" a day of skiing at Northstar during the winter holiday weekend. We arrived at the ski area at 8:00a. We didn't get to touch the snow to ski until 12:00p that day. It took us 3 hours to get through the lift/rental shop. Just as we were ready to go home, a Northstar employee heard our conversation... more

Our family just went to Northstar and it is currently a shambles. There is construction equipment everywhere and most of the shop and restaurant sites are still vacant in the village. We weren't even staying at Northstar, yet any food, drink, or products purchased at the village had a 2% resort fee added on to the tax. It made the... more

Northstar at Tahoe is an excellent all-purpose ski resort that attracts alot of beginners and intermediates due to it's wide groomed runs . There's not much sheer cliffs nor death-defying rocky crags like Squaw Valley ski resort for the experts. Rather it has slopes for everyone. The lower portion of the front side of Northstar's Mount Pluto is largely green... more

This place is awesome. They had a special on Sundays for active duty military ski for free. I tried it out and would have no problem paying for what I experiranced. This place is great. The village has nice shops and restaurants. The gondola ride to base camp is enjoyable. They have runs for all abilities. It seemed that some... more
