Last summer, my husband and a friend took their four kids on a four-hour ride. The horses spooked repeatedly, and there were two incidents in which children were thrown by the horses: one, because the horse rolled; the other, because one horse kicked another in the chest. My daughter has been riding for five years and said the horses felt... More

My 15 year old son and I went on a 2 hour ride. The entire ride was through the woods on rocky trails. No vista's. My son was on a lame horse, that limped the whole ride. I was concerned for his safety. I wouldn't do this ride again. Boring and stressful due to the horses tripping on all the... More

My husband and I always try to horseback on a trip to a beautiful area..such as Lake Tahoe. Alpine Meadows Stables didn't disappoint. We were able to get reservations for the time requested the day before (the week after Labor Day weekend). Our guides Lara and Martin were wonderful, making things comfortable and answering questions along our one hour ride.... More

My daughter is a young equestrian and wanted to get some riding in while we were in Tahoe. I saw the other reviews of Alpine Meadows Stables so we decided to try it. We called in the morning and got to ride on the same day, a two hour trail ride. 60 bucks was a great deal. Dusty was the... More

My girls (ages 5, 7, and 9) wanted to try horseback riding. We booked a 1 hour trail ride. The guides were concerned about whether my 5-year-old would be able to handle the horse, so one guide led her horse for her. The horses were very calm, the guides did a good job of selecting animals for us. The other... More

My granddaughter loves horses and is saving her money to buy a horse. She is seven and has never really ridden a horse so I took her horseback riding at Alpine Meadows Stables. The two hour ride confirmed that she wants a horse! We rode through beautiful, rugged country and she handled her horse all by herself! We went through... More

We chose the two hour trail ride - just long enough for us, who have not been on horses in several years. The horses were well mannered-though mine really favored munching on "mule ears" throughout the ride. Our guide, Rachel, was informative, knew the area well, and made sure we were all doing well throughout the ride. The trail took... More

Lets face it, horseriding is expensive. $35 per hour in a resort area is pretty good. My wife went riding and had a good time. The trail got off the beaten path. She got to see countryside and not just the roadside. The people there were nice and helpfull.

They are a great stable, nestled off the road and in business since the late 60's! Friendly and professional, great with nervous kids and adults alike! This is the second year we've gone with my 8 year old niece insisting it become a tradition!

A nice change of pace if you are in the Truckee/Tahoe City area and are looking for something to do. I'm not a big hiker, but I do enjoy nice scenery. Not having to walk and still getting to enjoy nature is a bonus in my book. Our family of four took the one hour ride, but I think we... More
