Drive toward Emerald Bay along Highway 89 and park for a fee at the Eagle Falls trailhead. A short hike back to the falls takes you to a bridge. Cross the bridge and see the sign for Desolation Wilderness ahead (permit required). In the winter, very view hikers travel this trail, but it's absolutely worth the adventure. We used snowshoes... We lucked out and hiked to Eagle Lake in January in 50 degree weather! There were hardly any hikers out so it was even better. When we got to the lake there were groups of people ice skating and even some playing hockey! Everyone loved it from our oldest hiker of 59 years to our youngest of 4 years. More

Great, family friendly hike. The falls are easy to reach, and Eagle Lake is not far beyond them. Good for families, those with little hiking experience/ability, and anyone who loves spectacular scenery. More

Great trailhead with ample parking right off the road. A short 10-minute walk will take most of the family (not wheelchair accessible) to view a bridge over the river and a lovely view of Lake Tahoe. Open in winter, but without bathrooms. Trailhead leads to a somewhat more challenging hike into the Desolation Wilderness. Hikers are supposed to have a... More

Eagle Falls trail is one of the better for beginners in Tahoe. Short, has uphill, but alsways on trail; some higher stepping stones. About a mile up to the lake, just seeing falls is onlya few hundred yards from parking lot. For longer hike on serene trail, continue past Eagle Lake on upper trail toward Velma Lakes. Much more physically... More
