Owner description: Located just a few steps south of historic Sonoma Town Plaza, the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art presents rotating exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The Museum has built an impressive reputation during its first twelve years with shows featuring works by Picasso, Rembrandt, and Goya as well as acclaimed contemporary artists like David Hockney and Sandow Birk. Most exhibitions run 2-3 months. The Museum is also a community gathering place for art history lectures, community events, classes and celebrations. A new reference library features 2,500 art books. A small cafe in the front of the building provides coffee and tea and is a gathering place for Sonoma art lovers. It's a Museum with a big reputation but small enough to be a fun add-on to a visit to Sonoma. Convenient to restaurants on the Town Plaza, an hour enjoying the current exhibition is the perfect arts complement to Sonoma's food and wine offerings.

A nice local museum with many examples of local artists. Wine country themes are of course, predominate. There are some good examples of ancient Spanish art, probably from original settlers. Worthwhile to visit, knowledgeable docents.

I wish our hometown would have a museum just like this. Perfect. We spent around an hour at the 'Realism' exhibit and loved it. The art is varied and the information provided about the artists and their approach to their work was just perfect. Great gem of a find for art-lovers. I was inspired! Would love to return to Sonoma... More

Art is a beautiful thing and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art really gives you a new perspective of art with work from local, national and international artists displayed across the museum. The museum has a vast range of different works from new contempory art to more traditional styles and plenty of intriguing work. I am a huge fan of... More

We always stop by and are surprised at many of the shows they get. It's a nice space and very accessible. A few years ago there was a very surprising Picasso exhibit of work we've never seen It's worth a stroll down the one block from the Plaza

For the most part the exhibits are underwhelming. However the personal collection of Darius Anderson of contemporary Cuban art was spectacular. About once a year the museum hits on a personal collection like the installation of Fletcher Benton's actual art studio. Then crowds flock to see these very special views of one person's love. It is sad to visit. I... More

This museum, located in Sonoma, on Broadway, offers unique art exhibits of both local artists and nationally known artists. Currently, there is an exhibit from Cuba with very special pieces. I have also been there to see a Rodin exhibit and a Picasso ceramics exhibit which were most interesting. The museum curates local young artists at times, which is encouraging... More

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art is a wonderful place. It is a bit small but they always have great exhibits - Great place just off the Sonoma Plaza to relax and take in some nice Art in between wine tasting.
