Vella Cheese is true Sonoma home grown! Fabulous selection of home-made cheeses from a few months old to aged over 4 years! The Mezzo Secco Jack is unparalleled. The staff is very knowledgable and very generous with their tasting! In a historic building just off of Sonoma's Plaza, it's a must see and taste!

Besides having ridiculously great selection of cheeses the location is an experience in and of itself. It is just a short walk from the plaza. If you happen to be there in the summer look across the street and up the hill a bit for fresh tomatoes to go with your cheese. I recommend the aged Jack. Don't try to... More

I have been coming here to purchase wonderful cheeses for over 25 years and always enjoy the experience. The staff are friendly and very accommodating and always like to give us samples of the various cheeses before we buy them. The shop is historic, away from all the commercialized shops, and a must see on your visit to the lovely... More

Last stop on the Segway tour and it was a great way to end the day after the wineries. The ladies up front were great about making suggestions.

The best cheeses in Sonoma. Made on site, they offer a variety of jack cheeses including Rosemary, Jalapeño, Habanero and Plain. They have Italian crostini that are fabulous. The store closes early so go before 2 PM.

Stopped in on the recommendation of one of the wine rooms. They provide samples of all their cheeses that are made in-house. They're specialty is a dry Jack cheese, which I don't think I've had before. Very flavorful. We ended up purchasing some of that and their habanero cheddar. It's a smidge off the beaten path, two blocks up from... More

We visited Vella as part of our cycle tour (operated by Goodtime Tours - excellent!) and this was a great little addition to the overall tour. The cheeses we tasted were delicious and we bought some to enjoy for the rest of our visit. We also got a behind the scenes tour of the manufacturing area and the storage area... More

A cheese factory just off the main square. My husband went in to grab something to go in our pack as we bicycled to the nearby wineries. I waited outside. He came back with an asiago and smoked gouda. Both good. The cheese factory on the main plaza does lots of jack, but..... They also sold little cutting boards and... More

We've been fans of Vella's hard jack cheese ever since finding it in a market some years ago. It's a product of a small cheese factory in Sonoma where you can visit and taste. The staff is wonderfully friendly and few tasters will leave without a selection of cheeses, especially of what is the best hard jack cheese I've ever... More
