While taking a walk around Sonoma, found our way to the Vella Cheese Company. During my husband's career, he had the opportunity to meet with Ignasio Vella. We found him in old pictures on the store wall. His family still operates the store. It was a quick visit. The store is tiny. We picked out two or three cheeses which... More

Great Cheese, including mild and spicy. The prices were very reasonable - especially compared to other cheese factories on the Sonoma cheese trail.

I cannot believe I am reviewing this place. We were in Sonoma with out of towners and they saw the sign. It is a big gimmick. Its as bad as going to Sutter Home tasting room, but for cheese. Unless you like crowds and mediocre cheeses, avoid this place.

We were told about this cheese factory by the desk at The Cottage Inn and Spa. The building is unassuming, but the lady inside knew everything about cheeses and allowed us to sample as many as we liked. Consequently, we purchased several different jack cheeses. After all, you need something to go with the wine!

Whenever we're in Sonoma we stop at the Vella Cheese Company to stock up on their delicious butter. It freezes beautifully so we enjoy it for months. The Monterey Jack cheese they produce is also some of our favorite - in pesto, jalapeño, garlic, habañero and rosemary flavors - but especially their pale, sweet, nutty Dry Monterey Jack which when... These cheeses are fabulous, family-made for generations. The servers were knowledgeable; ours was in training - the "old-timer" (in her 30s) corrected her a few times as she described several cheeses to us and explained how they were made, aged... we enjoyed them all, but like when we taste wine, I go for one type (Toma) and my husband liked... We had read great reviews about this place but were greatly disappointed. When we entered the shop, no one greeted us, no one offered us samples, we were basically ignored and ended up leaving without tasting any cheese or buying. We arrived at 9:30, first thing in the morning, and the staff all seemed to be busy getting ready for... More

We stopped at Vella Cheese based on a recommendation from a winery. We bought a selection of cheese, bread, and sausage and went back to the winery to have a picnic. The cheeses we selected were as good as any that we have had in France. Next time we are in California we will defiantly stop there again. They help was... More

No crowds- go right to the source for a wonderful cheese experience. The friendly staff welcomes you to a small tasting area and you are free to request a taste of whatever cheese you'd like. It's good to know that it is made right on the premise as it has been for many years. We enjoyed the aged cheeses and... More
