The mission is to the rear of the Solvang central car park. It is quite charming. How admirable that the US have restored and maintained this last vestige of Spanish and Mexican rule. The architectural style is very eye-catching. The museum and tour are worth the effort if you have time. The garden and aspect are pretty and very photogenic.

That summer I visited several California missions. As a native to California, I have often been enamored by its history. The California Mission network has always held a particular curiosity for me. Santa Ines is small, with a small souvenir shop. The church itself is unremarkable except for some excellent stain glass and a cemetery out back. There is some... More

Park in the parking lot behind the bakery and walk through the arch that takes you to the gardens of the mission. the Mission is great and the tour of restored rooms worth the small price. Then wander through the gardens...stop by a fountain or on a bench under a arbor and rest and feel history all around you.

Could not go inside the mission unless you paid for a tour... which would have been too expensive for our family group, even though for a good cause: that which helps maintain the Mission. My daughter-in-law is Catholic and she was under the wrong impression she would be able to go inside to pray, so she was a little disappointed..

The exhibitions are informative and there is a quiet garden area to the rear of the mission for quiet reflective moments.

The old mission is still in use, and has several out buildings that are used by the church. The grounds are attractive and well kept. There is some interesting history here. There is a Church operated gift store on the site. Nothing special, but if you're on a Mission Tour, you don't want to miss this one.

I have been traveling the mission trail for sometime, and was a little disappointed with this one. I am grateful for the preservation that has bee was done, but SO much is missing! The cemetery has very few headstones left and they had left over ropes tied to cross, and rubbish in the corners. There is only one statue behind... More

I loved the 14 stations of Jesus' walk to His resurrection and the breathtaking views. We are not Catholic, but as Christians, appreciated the history.

My wife and I visited this mission on a Tuesday morning and the chapel was closed for a ceremony so we didn't get to see that. We did tour the grounds, which are very pleasant, and the indoor museum exhibits. This mission isn't as grand as some others (like the one in nearby Santa Barbara), but if you're in Solvang... More
