The Mission is in Solvang's city center, so you don't need to go far or walk with a stroller in the dirt at noon to experience it (as you would have to do if you go to La Purisima mission). In my case, I have two kids (2 and 4 years old) and it really helped to be within "civilization".... More

Smaller Mission. We were on vacation and visited many of the California Missions. We didn't have a lot of time to spend at this mission, so we didn't want to pay to go in. Spent about 10 minutes outside and enjoyed what was outside. From the outside, it looked smaller than many of the other missions. Right at the edge... More

The mission is very close downtown Solvang, CA. Not as grand of an exterior as the mission in Santa Barbara, but still interesting. The self guided tour is $10, which I thought was a bit spendy for as short the tour is. Along the tour are boxes mounted on the wall that have buttons. When pushed, a pre-recorded narrator provides... More

As a fan of California mission architecture, I've always been fond of Santa Ines; but I'm also old enough to remember when the missions looked old. Many of them have been so thoroughly restored, they almost look new.

The mission is to the rear of the Solvang central car park. It is quite charming. How admirable that the US have restored and maintained this last vestige of Spanish and Mexican rule. The architectural style is very eye-catching. The museum and tour are worth the effort if you have time. The garden and aspect are pretty and very photogenic.

That summer I visited several California missions. As a native to California, I have often been enamored by its history. The California Mission network has always held a particular curiosity for me. Santa Ines is small, with a small souvenir shop. The church itself is unremarkable except for some excellent stain glass and a cemetery out back. There is some... More

Park in the parking lot behind the bakery and walk through the arch that takes you to the gardens of the mission. the Mission is great and the tour of restored rooms worth the small price. Then wander through the gardens...stop by a fountain or on a bench under a arbor and rest and feel history all around you.

Could not go inside the mission unless you paid for a tour... which would have been too expensive for our family group, even though for a good cause: that which helps maintain the Mission. My daughter-in-law is Catholic and she was under the wrong impression she would be able to go inside to pray, so she was a little disappointed..

The exhibitions are informative and there is a quiet garden area to the rear of the mission for quiet reflective moments.

The old mission is still in use, and has several out buildings that are used by the church. The grounds are attractive and well kept. There is some interesting history here. There is a Church operated gift store on the site. Nothing special, but if you're on a Mission Tour, you don't want to miss this one.
