A Visceral Delight (Nicer than Napa)

Worth the drive for sure. Blonde rolling hills, laden with sparing Oak trees, lush green vineyards standout, very remote, as this region is vast and spread out.

I was a little bit disappointed with the view this year on the drive from Los Olivos to some very good wineries in Santa Maria. It was much greener on the drive last year on Foxen Canyon Road. The drought has done a lot of damage to the vegetation alongside the road. Mostly yellow, not green. Hopefully they will get... More

Excellent drive through central coast vineyards along a winding road. Plan to do it a few times, as tasting at 3 is usually enough! Keep an eye out for wildlife as well, saw coyote, tarantulas (crossing the street!) and deer.

Went here yesturday. Some very nice wineries specializing in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Very limited in varietals but great wines if you like these two. The valley is beautiful and if it rains will just be stunning. Very peaceful during the wek days. If you go here a word of advice, there is no food or services out this way.... More

Fun to have a picnic at one of the wineries on this trail, like Rancho Sisquoc or Zaca Mesa. Best not to do more than 3 in one day or can share tastings...

This is a great area to start wine tasting but you have be aware that all of the wineries are not equal. We'd gone to the Santa Maria area with the particular intent of trying some wine tasting (never done it before). But where to start? Research shows you that there's one or two wineries on the "Foxen Canyon trail"... More

Great, unpretentious wineries and some of the most beautiful views you'll ever see! Stop at the old San Ramon Chapel for a real piece of history and pack a picnic to eat on the picnic benches at Riverbench or Rancho Sisqouc.

There is NO time of year, when a motorcycle ride or a car drive on this trail is not heavenly. The rolling hills, breathtaking vistas, vineyards, horse and cattle ranches and fresh air will have you falling in love with the world and this very small piece of heaven. A quick stop in any of the wine tasting rooms along... More

The variety of wineries and wines along Foxen Canyon may be some of the best in California. Although "a slice of Heaven in the Spring", there is also much to be said about winter, when the vines are sleeping and there are no crowds. Our favorites are Zaca Mesa and Firestone, although Fess P. was very good this time, and... More

The storied Foxen Canyon Wine Trail represents all that is right with California wine country. But a stone's throw from L.A., Southern California wine enthusiasts can immerse themselves in a spectacular afternoon of traveling from one winery to the next, tasting some extraordinary wines along the way.
