Maureen the main guide is a former school teacher and a naturalist and did a great job in helping understand the whales and their environment. In our case, we actually saw 2 dozen whales and a school of dolphin which they obviously can't guarantee but the additional information was very helpful. The rest of the crew did a great job... This was my first time whale watching on the Pacific -and I was not disappointed. We saw lots of whales, plus anchovy food running away from them. There were also lots of sea lions and the highlight was super cute otters on the way back. The naturalist on board was very passionate about marine life, and seemed to make a... More

The crew made a great effort on what was a lack luster day for whales. Since they are wild creatures it's hard to predict where they will be. Props to this experienced crew for finding one whale which we watched for about an hour. Very cool. The bonus was on the way back we went just off the beach at... More

We had an amazing time whale watching. During the trip out into Monterey Bay, we saw two whales, hundreds of sea lions, and thousands of jellyfish. It was hard to not be completely amazed by that alone, but the best was yet to come. When we reached the spot off Watsonville where all of the activity was happening, we saw... More

Monterey bay is a perfect feeding place for the humpbacks this time of year as evidenced by this trip where we got to experience a pod of nearly 20 humpback whales. They were stunningly beautiful and we got to see lots of behavior including three breaches. The captain and docent were knowledgeable and the steward was mature for his young... More

We hadn't planned on a whale watching tour, but decided to leave the Sacramento area for a couple of days and head to Monterey and Santa Cruz. We are so glad that we did. It is amazing to see these creatures in their natural habitat! We were fortunate enough to see about 30 whales and at one point, they were... More

The half-day fishing trips on the Velocity are a great way to get on the water and enjoy the Monterey Bay near Santa Cruz. In general, I believe the fish most people will catch on the half-day rockfishing trips are going to be smaller on average than those caught on a full day trip because the reefs they are fishing...
