I have been on two kayaking trips with Blue Water Ventures, and they have both been fantastic. Kim, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable about the Bay and its wildlife. She is committed to making sure that everyone has a terrific time, while also respecting the animals. The equipment is in great shape, and the trips are always planned to take... More

My wife and I went on the recent evening / night guided kayak tour on Elkhorn Slough. Despite living in nearby Santa Cruz, we had never kayaked on the Slough; this introduction was amazing. Kim did a great job leading the tour, and showed us wildlife large (sea otters, seals) and small (sand dollars and bioluminescent phytoplankton). The wildlife came... More

This trip was a rich and thoroughly enjoyable experience, involving camping on the beach (dude camping, with ample comfort and surprisingly tasty meals prepared by the Mexican cooks of our support team), snorkeling with sea lions and reef fish in the Sea of Cortez, kayaking, and chasing after gray whales in their Magdalena Bay hangout on the Pacific side. The... More

Thanks Kim for the great trip on the Slough. The moon may have hidden behind the fog and clouds but the wildlife up close and personal made the trip. My daughter and I had a great time and will join you for another trip sometime soon. We live just miles from the Slough and had never seen it from the... More

My friend and I took advantage of a Groupon offer and decided to try our hand at kayaking. She had gone before with them and my first experience was this past summer at Lake Arenal in Costa RIca. I am a school teacher and lead international trips through EFTours and I had always wanted to learn how to kayak. The... More

There is a reason I keep returning to Blue Water Ventures trips lead by owner/naturalist guide Kim Powell. Not only does she run the most amazing outdoor, eco-friendly and wildlife "interactive" adventures, but her passion for sharing her love and knowledge of nature is infectious and unrivaled. I purposely hold vacation time and eagerly await next year's new offerings. If... More

I have been on several kayaking trips with BWV in the Slough and Bay and enjoyed each one. Kim is a wonderful guide and you will see amazing wildlife and learn great information! This is an up-close and memorable way to experience the beautiful Monterey/Santa Cruz area. If you live in this area or are planning a trip, don't miss... More

Just had an amazing weekend of adventures with Blue Water Ventures - whale watching one day and kayaking the next. I highly recommend this company and its owner, Kim Powell. Well organized, highly knowledgable and clearly loving what she does, Kim makes you feel safe while having a whale of a time!! Everything was clearly laid out before the trip... More

I went on a whale watching trip with Blue Water Ventures, on the Sanctuary--a biodiesel whale watching boat on the Monterey Bay. Looking back on it, I can barely believe how much wildlife we saw that day, such as humpback whales, Blue Shark, and a large pod of Risso's dolphins! It was an enchanted day, and I will definitely go... More

This is the most incredible one week experience viewing marine life and enjoying nature. Highlights were snorkeling with sea lions, seeing whales and dolphins up CLOSE, viewing amazing sea stars & other invertebrates, and fishing for the kids. Kim takes great care of all the details, including choosing a great outfitter, Mar Y Aventuras, whose guides were fantastic. Highly recommend... More
