Sustainable Team Building Events for Corporate Groups. Private Chef Services. Our classes are built around the freshest seasonal local ingredients, combined with a playful attitude that draws on my French upbringing, enriched by the cuisines of the many countries I have visited and by California's own multicultural richness. The preferences and restrictions of my guests are built into the day's lesson plan to ensure that everyone enjoys the experience. Sample menus can be viewed on the Market Forays website. Classes are hands-on, and a printed recipe guide is provided to each guest. The goal is not to impress you with my skills, it is to help you realize your own abilities. Saturday Market Forays classes begin at 8 in the morning at the harbor, continue on to the farmers market, and then we cook and share a feast. Class wraps up around 3:30 pm. Cost is $145 per person. Private classes available during the week, advance reservation is required. « less

My son and daughter gave me an incredible gift for my birthday, a day at Market Forays. Luckily, a good friend decided to join the class which made the class extra fun. From the harbor where we purchased local rock crab and sea bass, to the Santa Barbara Farmers Market with its amazing assortment of produce and more, to Laurence's... More

My sisters, mother, and I spent last Saturday in Laurence's cooking class. As the other reviews have indicated, she is nothing short of amazing. She contacted us ahead of time to ask about food likes/dislikes, dietary restrictions, and if there was anything in particular we wanted to cook. We met her at the harbor in the morning, where all the... More

We celebrated my sister's 65th birthday by spending the day with Laurence of Market Forays. Laurence met us in the morning with delicious home-baked (and warm!) scones. We shopped for fish and then moved to the farmer's market. Laurence was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with our group, which included our 89 year old mother. We selected fresh herbs and vegetables... More

What a fantastic day! This past Saturday I was lucky enough to participate in a corporate event in Santa Barbara that included spending a day with Laurence from Market Forays. From our initial introduction (greeted with fresh warm scones) at the local docks where we were to select our fresh crab, to the sights and smells and tastings of the... More

I just came back from the experience of a lifetime. I hosted a group of ten with Laurence Hauben and Market Forays where we shopped at local markets and then prepared our meal at a private kitchen. The entire experience was nothing short of outstanding. Laurence met our group first thing in the morning with freshly baked scones which we... More

A friend and I recently visited Santa Barbara for the weekend. The highlight of our trip was the day we spent with Laurence of Market Forays. We were greeted at the harbor by Laurence carrying a basket of warm scones, bought fish at a wonderful bayside fish shop and then caravanned to the amazing Santa Barbara Farmer's Market. A stop... Our Market Forays Cooking Class exceeded all expectations we had when we made our reservation. The class consisted of five of us, my wife, our daughter, her husband, our adult son and myself. The day started at the Santa Barbara Harbor where we were met by Chef Julia, Laurence Hauben's daughter. She greeted us with a warm smile and a... More

This is a wonderful experience that anyone who appreciates learning new things, the art of cooking, the beautiful fruits and vegetables of the Farmers Market, exquisite cheeses and wines, fresh and local crab, and the camaraderie around the dinner table. We plan to take this class at least once per year with our family because each time we go, we... More
