A visit to the court house is really worthwhile. You can park in the garage over the road (first 75mins are free) and entrance to the court house is free. The view from the tower is the best in Santa Barbara, and certainly worth the 144 step climb.

Kind of fun to walk up a couple of flights of stares & look out at the city - a very "local" thing to do :)

The Santa Barbara County Courthouse is one of the most beautiful places I visited while in S.B. The views from the observation tower are absolutely breathtaking. It truly is a gem in this quaint city. And it's free!

I took the FREE tour which is led by a docent. This is a definite 'to do' for your visit to Santa Barbara. The historic building is amazing and it is fantastic that they have free tours. The docent we had was extremely thorough and educated us about the architect, the tiles, the clock, the landscaping and the jail and... More

I still find in hard to believe this "Spanish" building was built in the early 20th century. it appears totally authentic and is more a late example of the type than 'mock". the views from the tower are stunning and the clock mechanism very well displayed. well worth a visit, entry for which is free.

I read about the Santa Barbara Courthouse on tripadvisor and thought it may be a nice place to stop as we drove up the PCH. We normally aren't interested in architecture, but decided to give it a shot anyway. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! The courthouse was just beautiful! It felt like we were in an... A courthouse may not seem to be the highlight of your weekend, but Santa Barbara's beautiful building and its grounds are full of surprises. Best of all are the wonderful historical murals and wall hangings and the courthouse itself. But there's more. You can climb to the top of the entire building and spend time oohing and aching at the... More

There is nothing to dislike here. Its gorgeous. The grounds are lush and the courthouse is littered with are depicting the first settlers of the area. You can go into the law library, which I thought was hugely impressive. This is a must see as part of the tour of the city.
