Hearst Castle is a few miles north. We stayed in our tent in the Primitive Campground. Due to the drought, there is no water near the campsites. Water is available near the park entrance. Bring lots of bottles. There are hiking trails of easy to moderate difficulty on the dry hills and through forest. Price for a tent site for... More

It was a nice park with excellent views of the ocean. There were nice trees by the ocean. Unfortunately it rained so we couldn't really get the full enjoyment.

This is our 3rd time at the campground. Instead of staying in the lower area, we found a spot at the top and enjoyed ocean views and undulating hills to the east. Unfortunately there is a water crisis so they no longer offered flush toilets (porta potties were clean) or showers. We walked to Washburn campground and it was very... More

The 3.5 mile loop trail from the Washburn day use area is a very easy, but interesting hike for kids. The hike includes wooden boardwalks and bridges over marshy San Simeon Creek, a fern gully, views of ranch land and a little local history. There are a lot of interpretive signs that helped us identify the wildlife we were seeing,... More

Need a close by place from the castle to picnic , than the state park will work for you. Just be aware the parking lot is in very very poor shape , don't plan on driving your Ferrari in the lot!,, Mike

Brought my girlfreind and my kids camping there over the past weekend Friday-Monday. I have been there before but it was their first time. This is a great little campground. The sights where we stayed are remarkably level. We stayed in site #87 which was long enough for my 28' trailer. All the sites 86-90 are really the best if... More

I grew up going to this beach as a kid, so I guess I am partial. But even visiting as an adult, it has some magical power over me. The beach and pier are lovely, and if you visit, go down the beach to the "cove" and hike up the trail to the eucalyptus trees. You will make it out... More

Some very nice hikes (walks) in the park. We saw lots of wildlife and birds. Overall, a very nice visit for a day visit.

We hiked one afternoon and enjoyed it. We saw a number of deer, a rabbit, cows and birds. It was not crowded and the hike was about 3.5 miles. Restrooms at the parking lot. Beach access. Parking lot closes at sunset, no State Park staff on site.
