San Simeon State Park is one of my favorite camping spots, my wife and I along with friends and family have been coming here for OCE ten years. We like to camp in the upper Washburn primitive camping area, there are no flush toilets or RV hook ups, but we dry camp with our trailers of motor homes. There is... More

I booked a one night stay in San Simeon State Park using ReserveAmerica. We waited in line at the ranger station for 20 minutes and we were only third in line. When the park ranger finished checking us in, he said that the sinks, toilets and showers were turned off due to the water emergency in California. Everyone had to... More

This is a very nice California State Park. It is clean and safe. It would be nice if it had electricity and there could be water for the bathrooms and showers. The upper campground has pit toilets so it is not affected by the severe water shortages this area of California is experiencing. The lower Campground has locked bathrooms and... More

Stayed March 18th for two nights. We understood the showers were closed because of them drought, but didnt know they shut the toilets down also. We paid more for the San Simeon loop with outhouses that were full and needed to be emptied, then walked up to the Washburn loop and found they had nicer pit toilets. The rangers were... More

While camping at Joshua Tree, our tent neighbors suggested a stop by the San Simeon Area to witness the Elephant Seal birthings on our return trip home to Oregon. While our trip was magical in many ways, this was probably the most incredible event in our 2 week adventure. We pulled into a roadside way, that was teaming with cars... More

It was surprising to us to experience this quite place with so much beauty unlike most places we came across in CA. A real find in my opinion. Here you can stay in one of the low budget motels and with the beautiful surroundings feel like you are in a luxury resort.

This place is a great stop. Well taken care of. Lots of room to roam around and explore, and it's so beautiful here.

We love camping and are generally quite flexible in our camping excursions. This campground did not meet our expectations. We live in California and know all too well we are in a drought. Not a big deal for us but may be for some: We were not informed that the restrooms would be totally closed. Even when we checked in,... More

My friends and I were able to get two campsites next to each other in the Washburn campground. Most parks in California don't have water available these days, so we came prepared. The pit toilets were better than I've seen at other parks and a hand sanitizer dispenser was a nice bonus. Our campsites were clean, pretty flat, and had... More

Besides all the wonders of the castle, they also have an animal reserve. When we approached, we were treated to Zebras and other animals. The castle is spectacular. Visit both daytime and night. Night is a must.
