My friends and I were able to get two campsites next to each other in the Washburn campground. Most parks in California don't have water available these days, so we came prepared. The pit toilets were better than I've seen at other parks and a hand sanitizer dispenser was a nice bonus. Our campsites were clean, pretty flat, and had... More

Besides all the wonders of the castle, they also have an animal reserve. When we approached, we were treated to Zebras and other animals. The castle is spectacular. Visit both daytime and night. Night is a must.

We weren't impressed with this campground at all. Part of the problem could be that you have to book with Reserve America and they told us we were getting a "standard" site with water and electricity. Unfortunately we got neither. None of the sites have electricity, ever, and during the drought none of them have water. They will let you... More

Great park. Do NOT miss the nice hike available form the day use area, across the creek from the campground. My wife and i have hiked many trails in the SLO area - on the coast and in the hills - and this one of the best! The 3.5 mile hike (although could be made shorter via one of the... More

We took the grand rooms tour. Was ONLY 5 rooms. That was $25.00 each (or $50.00) If we wanted to see second floor of Castle, was another $25.00/person. AND if we wanted to see the guest houses, ANOTHER $25.00/person. $150.00 for this is too much. Too bad as the tour person was great, and the scenery wonderful, but bring MONEY... More

Plan your visit to the estate, we did the evening tour and it was interesting to be in the estate without big crowds and to be the last ones out of the park.

The Hearst Castle is totally amazing. But the tours ARE pricey. We took the grand rooms tour and found it very interesting but for the $$ we would have expected more. The tours are well organized and very controlled. Don't even lean on any of the furnishings or you will be shot...just kidding but folks will come out of the... More

I've been returning to this campground for 13 years and particularly like the Washburn level. This year I was able to get my favorite site with the ocean views. I spent 9 nights in heaven and only hope I'll be able to return soon any time of the year. Dick Howard, San Marcos, CA

We have visited the San Simeon State Park in San Simeon numerous times. We have enjoyed a picnic there. In addition, there is another branch of San Simeon State Park in Cambria at the Santa Rosa Creek Area. We enjoyed visiting that location as well.
