The California Theatre is a great theatre for live performances and film. There is a huge amount of seating both on the floor and in balconies. The architecture is nice, and sometimes they raise the organ up from underneath the stage for pre-show playing.

This review has been influenced by a terrific Symphony Silicon Valley performance in this theater, but the facility is a terrific venue for such performances. The acoustics are good, the sight lines even at the edge of the main floor are reasonable, and seating is plentiful. It's within easy walking distance of the Fairmont Hotel, our lodging for the conference... More

We had an amazing time in California Theatre watching a Holiday Concert. The walls are stunningly decorated and the acoustics in the theatre are decent. Well worth a concert in here!

This is oriented to anyone who likes opera. Opera San Jose, founded by Irene Dalis, a former diva at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC, gives up-and-coming young opera singers the opportunity to develop their repertoire in a variety of roles, before they go on to become international stars. The full symphony is excellent and the setting opulent-restored to its original... More

I have visited this beautiful theater several times: viewing two movies for Cinéquest (a prestigious annual film fest); and enjoying an Opera (the marriage of Figuero). California Theater offers an elegant venue that maintains the feeling of days gone by: an organist plays as you enter; a heavy, red curtain conceals the stage from view; the intricate paintings on the... We have seen a couple of concerts put on by the San Jose Symphony. The acoustics are great in here for music. The seating is nice no matter where you are. It is just wonderful to have this beautiful old theater downtown to go to. The only drawback is when you exit after hearing peaceful music there is a loud... More

this venue is small and has a unique climate of days gone by. We were about 20 rows back for a play and I would not have wanted to be closed. Folks were very friendly and great restaurants are in walking distance. Fun evening.

Opera San Jose will begin its opening 2015/16 Season on September 12 with TOSCA. OperaSJ is a precious treasure for our community of all ages. Not to missed also is Larry Hancock's pre-show talk about the upcoming opera.

Came for a Chris Hardwick comedy show. Beautiful old theater. Easy parking, and we found street parking for $1.50! Easy access. Great venue for a show!
