I grew up around this church, I live just about everywhere in the Bay Area, I now live in North Carolina. I would not say that I am a frequent church goer but St. Joseph Cathedral Basilica in downtown San Jose is the best church I have ever been in my entire life. The surrounding area near the church though... More

Door was always open. Masses in English or Spanish. Late mass on Sunday. Could walk there from the Fairmont or other hotels in area.

Next door to the Fairmont. Beautiful. Attend Mass in English or Spanish. I had both my kids baptized and confirmed at this cathedral. We have a special affinity to it. Its a very special place.

I have attended Mass here on Sunday parking is not a problem, I wish they had an earlier Mass than 8:30 on Sunday. If you want to see the inside they do have free tours. The guy in the gift shop I Avery nice and helpful.

This is a beautiful basilica in the heart of San Jose downtown area. They apparently have half hour tours Tuesday- Friday at 1PM but you can also just pop in and wander around- just be mindful that they hold mass and confession 7 days a week, so check before you go. It is a beautiful building with ornate statues and... More

San Jose does not have many cultural sites to visit. This cathedral must be at the top of the list. It is beautiful and historic but also features a striking modern central altar and the extraordinary modern wooden pews of an artist whose name I unfortunately forget. They are museum-worthy. The stained glass and architecture also make this a memorable... More

The Cathedral is a wonderful piece of history for the 1800s. It is still in use.. So if you do chose to go in (I did) please be respectful. The ceilings, art and stained glass windows have a classic beauty. On the back side of the main alter is a small prayer area with a beautiful marble and gold lead... More

While in downtown San Jose I stopped in to view the cathedral. I found it quite amazing. The architecture and stained glass are inspiring. I was respectful to those worshiping and did not use a flash for the few photos I captured. I highly recommend a visit here.
