Tasting fabulous wine outdoors on the patio..doesn't get much better than that

This winery is a bit out of the way but don't miss it. It is next door to a cheese store, which happened to be closed, so plan your visit if you'd like to try to cheese which we were told was wonderful. Sad to say we missed it! Our server was both pleasant and knowledgeable which made our visit... More

Read about their cabs and had to stop in. Out of the way, small vineyard. Server was very personable and knew about the wines. Poured ample for tasting and revisiting those we liked. Cabs lived up to their billings! Had to join their wine club, if for nothing else, bottles of their Insignia. We both loved their 2008. ...another club... More

Main house was under renovation so we had the tasting in a temporary area. Our server was very nice, informative, and helpful. Grounds are beautiful.

We really enjoyed tasting the wines the Joseph Phelps has to offer. However, from the get go I was just focused on getting to the Insignia. While I have had if before and enjoy it, it was above and beyond all other wines they have to offer. Undortunately the winery is undergoing a rennovation at the time we went and... More

Went to taste the Phelps wines in St. Helena on a Saturday and make sure you have an appointment on weekends as they get very busy. While they are famous for their Insignia flagship wine, you will really enjoy their whites and their Pinot Noirs from Sonoma. A couple tips if you can plan ahead or come on a weekday.... More

Unlike some of the other wineries that woo you with gorgeous tasting rooms, expansive terraces overlooking lush vineyards, or a lot of what I call "wine rabble rabble," this winery is very laid back and casual. It almost feels like you are at larger than average park in the country hanging out with friends. Despite the casual, go your own... More

This month marks one year since we were last here. The winery has great wine...especially their Insignia wine. No reservations were needed and the tasting costs were low.

The two of us do not like to be inundated with worldly in-depth explanation of wine, and this tasting was perfect to be able to do your own thing, and enjoy the scenery outside. In September 2014 they had a temporary wine tasting area set up, which was nicer than some locations' permanent set up. We purchased wine and have... More

Great place but it is being renovated. We did the Wine and Cheese pairing in a private setting. It was tremendous with cheeses, fruits, nuts, crackers. Fantastic pours of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cab, a white dessert wine and of course the Insignia Blend.

I have been going to Joseph Phelps every 10 years or so for the past 30 years and it does not disappoint. It is a lovely spot with a knowledgeable, friendly staff and a wide range of excellent offerings. My goal this time was to determine whether I could tell the difference between the $70 cabernets and the the $200... More
