Was the worst winery experience. They rushed us through the tasting, the somellier didn't have much to say, and the trailer experience just killed it. Even worse, we paid for 8 tastings and only got 5, and then were rushed over to the adjacent trailer to pay.

First of all, the terrace tasting setting is gorgeous. The views are spectacular and the terrace is large enough to sit and enjoy them. As for the tasting, the staff that wasn't very informative (or even talkative, for that matter), didn't seem very open to questions or comments on the wines and were just all in all a bit standoffish.... Like many others, we had a private tasting. We tried insignia, yes, but also a lot of other surprising wines such as the Quarter Moon Pinot Noir. We were able to taste single block Cabernets, do our own blend, and taste how blending improves the taste. Like all tastings, know what you are signing up for (and paying for) so... More

I figured the only time I would get to sample Insignia wine was at a tasting at the vineyard so we signed up for the terrace tasting. The experience was awesome. The tasting takes place on a terrace where you have time to soak up the scenery while you sample awesome wine. Although not a lover of white wine, the... More

What a great setting to taste some really nice wines on my 57th birthday! Obviously, besides being outside, not the typical tasting room experience: a little bar outside, lots of room (seats and benches) to sit, relax, enjoy the view, and sample. Almost a little too relaxing for me as I forgot I had another vineyard to visit. While I... More

We booked a private tasting, which was well worth it. The view is truly amazing and has to be seen. The insignia is an absolute treat, and we bought a cheeky bottle for the road

If you only can visit one winery, Phelps should be that one. A private tasting here is like taking a course in fine wines and getting to sample some of the best. You want big reds - check. crisp chards and Sav blans - check. Learn about wine temperature, color, so many little things. Have done this tour twice with... More

Lovely tasting outside on the terrace, overlooking the mountains and vineyards. Beautiful drive up through the vineyard. Wines were certainly above average but also pricey so we didn't end up purchasing. Insignia was quite hyped prior to the tasting but honestly I felt didn't live up to it -- but taste on your own and you can decide! Certainly still... More

I already knew I loved Insignia from Joseph Phelps. I joined the “Red Wine Only’ Program before starting the $70 per person tasting. Because the program allows for 4 complimentary tastings per visit, I saved my group $280. Everyone here was so kind and the winery is beautiful. We loved Insignia, the Pinot Noir, and surprisingly the Viognier. The lady... More

The view is the best part. What a beautiful view. The wine was good. We had the preferred tasting. Tasted two versions of the Insignia. They were definitely good. Would I pay over $200 a bottle for them? No. Other equivalents are much more inexpensive. We did love the 2010 Cabernet and bought two bottles. The tasting staff was ok.... More
