We have made the trip many times over the years until my kids suggested that we take a tour. To summarize this trip in a few sentences, the capitol looks like the "White house" in appearance. A tour inside and out was interesting as well as informative and I think our kids had a great learning experience in politics. The... More

The Capital is a beautiful building and the Museum elements were explained by docents who really know their history. We were fortunate in that our "tour guide" was a twenty five year employee of the Capital and he knows every nook and cranny of the facility. History was brought alive during our expedition through the Capital and we truly appreciated... More

You will go through security check when entering the building. Tour starts at 9, every hour. Sign up in the basement and it caps out at about 35 people per group. The tour last about an hour and I do not recommend it for kids 5 yr or younger. It is interesting but my 3 yr was too loud so... More

This building is so beautiful. So much architecture and well preserved. We had a hotel downtown and walked to it, which was awesome. Everyone very friendly and well informed. Definitely worth the time.

The State Capitol in Sacramento was really cool. The building is amazing, and is fun to walk around in.

In the late 1980s, California completed an extensive remodel of the Capitol that revealed much of the original structure. The remodel was heavily criticized at the time for its expense but it has been worth every penny. Its now many years since the remodel but the structure still seems to be in excellent shape. I strongly recommend taking the (free!)... More

I was very impressed with the beauty of this building. It is gleaming white, standing tall against a deep blue sky. Quite a contrast! What was equally impressive were the park like grounds surrounding the Capitol. All trees were labeled and it was truly a botanical garden. Several of these trees were new to me. Depending on the time of... More

Provided courtesy of the State of California, we were given a guided tour of approximately 1 hour. Visited both the Senate and Assembly. Tour guide very informative on building, legislative law and budgets, plus tidbits of history that brought the tour alive. Get for any age group.

We walked through the capitol building and decided to come back the next day when we would have more time to look at the exhibits. We were glad we did. There is information about the different regions of California, as well as state history. Be sure to look up at the dome! The grounds are also beautiful and kept up... More
