The tour was free and we enjoyed it but if a fee were charged, we would recommend a bit more from the docent. The tour started in the lower level (basement) by the gift shop. The round room had wonderful paintings all around it and a statue of Governor Ronald Regan in the center. We learned nothing about the paintings.... More

I've been here multiple times, but find the visits where I take the tours the absolute best as they point-out things you'd never notice otherwise. A stroll of the grounds is also good as the plants are labeled.

Beautiful building and art ceilings. Wish I had more time to spend there rather than Old Sacramento. Highly recommend spending a few hours touring it.

This beautiful Capitol building houses the Governors' Portraits, a hall exhibiting displays of the best of each of the 58 counties, beautiful art and a magnificent cupola. Take the tour and learn all about California's history! There's a cafeteria in the basement and you'll see the hubbub of government in action if you're there during legislative session. The park and... More

Quite amazing. There are areas at the park where you can sit and relax, smell the flowers or enjoy the trees.

it was nice to go into the State Capitol and the old pieces of furniture was amazing and the volunteer was very knowledgeable. We could go upstairs and look down to the Politicians and see them voting. If you are not from the state you would of thought that they were wasting tax papers money as they were standing around... My family and I visited the Sacramento state house in June and enjoyed walking around the grounds. Typically we visit each state's capital grounds as part of our family tradition. I will say that this statehouse seems much larger than the other state houses largely because it is a larger state I suppose. My only complaint is that even though... More

Great walking tour or you can sign up for the guided tour. Great rooms and grounds. Good history. The museums were informative

I've been to the State Capitol on several occasions and it is nice to visit the seat of power in California and see the places where the laws are being made and see the history of California. The self guided tour is very informative and there is surprisingly lots to see and learn. It is interesting to see the portrait... More

We found the architecture of the old part of the Capital (styled after our Nation's capital) to be very beautiful. We took the free tour, which included some interesting historical insights. Our guide had an odd chip on his shoulder though, and kept interjecting negative opinions (i.e., about how history is taught in CA schools, and citizens' lack of involvement... More
