We went for a tour of the Capitol Building and the tour guide brought the information alive. She was so enthusiastic and full of knowledge she made it a really enjoyable visit. She had worked there for 25 years and had seen and heard lots of people in the Senate. The whole experience was enjoyable and educational. Really recommend a... More

When we have out of town visitors, we take them to the Capitol for a tour of the interior and museum. It is always fascinating to see California history throughout the building from the beautiful dome to the various well preserved rooms and offices. One aspect we enjoy is seeing the framed CA County displays in the corridors.

My group had a scheduled tour at 11am and fortunately, we arrived at 10am which gave us a chance to use the restrooms and explore the main floor, exhibits (PPIE was incredible - loved the video), but what put the visit over the top was the passionate Robin who gave our tour. Her love for her job was obvious and... More

Free tour was informative from a historical perspective. Lucky to see votes in action in both houses. Civil war trees planted on grounds were interesting since I was unaware that California was involved.

The landscape was quite disappointing. ADA accommodations were awkward and remote. I would have preferred a landscape design that presented native California plants all of which would be labelled for identification.

Spent an hour strolling through here with the family. Came in just as the place opened on Labor Day, so had the place pretty much to ourselves, which was awesome. Saw the two chambers, the dome, and the several rooms reconstructed to their look and feel from 100 years ago. The volunteers were quick to answer questions and very knowledgeable.... More

My wife and I were lucky enough to be given a professional tour by Tyson Dexter, a very skilled and fun tour guide who has honed his profession quite well. The California State Capitol and Museum is a place that everyone from California should visit as there is so much history there and so many docent and professional guides that... More

Great free thing to do in Sacramento. Free guided tours on the hour. Or you can walk freely by your self. It was great. Would highly recommend.

It is worth visiting the California State Capitol and taking one of the many free daily tours that last about 1 hour. You will see and learn a lot about state politics and it is even worth for folks visiting from other countries. Also the tour is completely free of charge. Recommended!

This is a beautiful capitol building. There is a security check as you enter the building (like airport security) but it wasn’t too overbearing, and once inside it was interesting to look around. Try to go on one of the free tours if you can; the guides are knowledgeable and friendly, and it was fun to learn about the building... More
