The grounds around the capital include a rose garden, many varieties of trees (labeled for your edification), small planting areas, a koi pond, and lots of benches to sit and enjoy a beautiful California spring day. The war memorial near the rose garden is well done. The interior of the capital is quite lovely as well. The State museum is... More

I worked here for 30 years and enjoyed each day I travelled through the halls and committee rooms. Lots of history, great architecture and it is a working building. You will sen elected members and staff in the hallways along with many visitors.

If you are coming to Sacramento you have to visit the Capitol. Plan ahead. Before you come, contact your local assembly person or senator and get on their visitors list. Most will have a staff person let you meander through their office, sit in their chair, and even take you on a personal tour. Depending on the power of your... More

Since I am a docent at the Capitol, I am a wee bit prejudiced. We get visitors from all over the world. The museum rooms are frequently staffed by docents, so you can see up close and personal some of the artifacts from the 1906 era. This is a step back in time not to be missed.

The Capitol building is beautiful inside and out. Inside the rotunda is absolutely beautiful. The wood and marble throughout the building is awesome. They have volunteers who give tours so if you have a few minutes to spare take the tour it is worth it. The grounds have over 100 different types of trees and the rose garden along with... More

This Capitol not only compliments an impressive state's legacy but it is a distinct part of it. This working Capitol enables visitors to visit legislative chambers; walk through hallways brimming with history and activity; enjoy the museum dedicated to the first decade of the state's energetic 20th century; participate in informative tours; engage a friendly and helpful group of volunteers... If given the opportunity to walk through the Capitol, go for it! It is full of architecture, art, history, and interesting exhibits. The docents are so knowledgeable and friendly. Here's a challenge for you- find out why Arnold's portrait is M.I.A. Oh, and see if you can figure out why Jerry's mother ask that he not use the same artist... More

The Capital building in Sacramento is beautiful! Lots of very interesting things to see. The grounds are very nice too. Be sure to go on all floors including the basement and plan to spend a few hours there.

As An Airline employee I have seen quite a few State capitals...CA offers up the best.. From the Gold lined Dome to the flower gardens outside you really get a feel for the stae. The walls deplict every County in the state and outside the capitalyou will find memorials to fallen peace officers, fallen firemen, Viet Nam Vets, and World... More
