Along with the Tower Theatre on Broadway, the Crest shows a number of excellent films that appeal to smaller (more intelligent?) audiences than many of the blockbusters shown at the large movie chains. The historic Crest is a delight. It lives up to it's reputation of showing good to great, somewhat artsy films. It's wonderful to get away from multi-plex movie theaters and sit very comfortably in a fine atmosphere. The atmosphere is leisurely with seemingly intellectual patronage. More

The Crest is one of the last art deco theaters around. They show movies that most big box theaters don't show. The staff is friendly and helpful. The theater shows its age a little, though. Also, parking can be difficult. Outside of that, it is one the grand dames of cinemas past. More

Beautiful art deco theater in the old downtown heart of Sacramento. Lots of great places to eat and/or drink before or after the show. Wonderful art films and live performances. More

Nice old theater that shows movies in low distribution, but many worthwhile. More

Once upon a time, there was a place where you went to forget all your troubles in Sacramento (I said SACRAMENTO---we'll skip over the bordellos of West Sacramento) and they were called MOTION PICTURE SHOW PALACES (think the Alhambra, the old TOWER THEATRE, etc.). Then TV came along in 1948 and the theatre owners freaked out. Instead of thinking themselves... More

We are all fortunate that Sacramentans saved this theater when developers wanted to tear it down. It has been restored beautifully and reminds us of what theatres used to be like. I caught a concert here last year and the acoustics were good. After the performance, you can run across the street to the Dive Bar which is a destination... More
