We have toured the capitol and seen the California legislature in session. It was interesting to watch. The capitol itself is architecturally beautiful building and was built in the mid 1880's. We like to visit the area particularly during the Christmas holiday period when there is a large decorated Christmas tree and other holiday decorations. There is differences from year... More

Our recent visit to the California Capitol was highlighted by two excellent docents. We entered the main foyer and began taking pictures. An older male docent (former guard for 20+ years at the Capitol pointed out many unique qualities of the statue in the Rotunda. Another docent told us about the videos in the basement and that both the Assembly... More

We only drove by it was closed at the time. but saw and interesting group of firefighters scaling one of the downtown buildings come to find out later they were training. The capital is huge and has beautiful exterior. Hope to go inside next time.

I was attending a conference in SAC, staying in the Hyatt, and had some free time therefore I decided to stroll the Capitol grounds and take a self-guided tour of the Capitol building. For a History geek like me and being from out-of-state, this was a great way to spend 75-90 minutes! I ended-up catching the last tour of the... More

The State Capitol was disappointing for me personally, after having seen other State Capitols set on large grounds, landscaped with beautiful gardens. This State Capitol was set among drought starved greenery (maybe a bad time to visit or even a bad year) and the building itself had the requisite dome, pillars and endless offices stretching out on either side. I... More

this is a very interesting and educational tour. I like to see the source where we as Californians are lied too and screwed over by the politicians. Nothing like seeing it first hand.

What a great feature of Sacramento. It's a beautiful air-conditioned place with tons of history to learn, and feel. The even give you free guided tours. Be prepared to go through security so don't be bringing your favorite hunting knife.

There are guided tours. Be prepared to do a lot of walking including stairs. Tour guides are very knowledgeable. You get to see both legislative houses, the old governors office, a bit of interesting history. I suggest park in a garage rather than feeding parking meters.
