This is a fairly compact zoo, and thus has a limited population of animals. But it manages to represent all the continents and most major animal groups. The animals seem well cared for. We spoke with one of the keepers, and he was clearly interested in and committed to the creatures in his care. The giraffe exhibit has been substantially... More

The grounds are beautiful. It was hot the day we visited so we missed some of the animals. The giraffe exhibit is great. The kids love feeding the giraffe. The reptile house was good - and cool also!

Recently visited the zoo again after 20 years and was not impressed. Most enclosures are relatively small, and there aren't many big animals...no bears, no elephants and only one pair of lions. Giraffes look over their wall and watch traffic go by. William Land Park surrounding the zoo is lovely and provides more to do than just the zoo.

The Sacramento Zoo may not be as big as some others, but it's a lot of fun. They have a reptile house where you can see all types of lizards, snakes, and toads. The flamingos are across the "street"' from the reptile house. They're always making weird sounds and are beautiful to look at. There are kangaroos, lions, tigers, zebras,... More

Not in the class of the zoos in San Francisco, San Diego or Los Angeles, but in the class of average city zoos, Sacramento's is first rate. They have a great selection of well cared for animals, the food isn't bad for a zoo, the layout is easy to navigate and it is pretty cheap to visit. I recommend visiting... More

Wanted an ice cream but machine broken. Tried to get a coffee later on. Waited ages for ages for the coffee to brew and then they had no unsweetened creamer or milk to offer. Had to get a refund and find somewhere off site to get a cup of coffee.

This is a very nice little zoo. They have great giraffe and big cat exhibits, especially now with the three new lion cubs. I was a member for many years and went frequently to take pictures and see the new babies. The side viewing window for the Sumatran Tiger exhibit is wonderful. The cats sit on the ledge and you... This zoo is clean and super cute. It's great to take your family to. I recommend going on a cooler day because a lot of the animals were in the hiding in their air conditioned rooms or in the shade. I was sad the Emu wasn't there. But overall it was fun and well worth the trip!

A small zoo, but wide range of animals. The zoo now has fruit bats(my favorite little animals). Since it was lightly raining most of the animals were out, especially the snow leopard. Good for all ages.

We have a family membership to the Sacramento Zoo, and we take our 3 year old son here often. It is relatively small -- nowhere near the size of the San Francisco Zoo or the San Diego Zoo, but it makes a great outing if you have young kids. The exhibits are modern, clean, and well shaded. There is a... More
