This is a great State Park and shouldn't be missed if you are a fan of the Old West and the history of locomotives. It brings to life the era of the Gold Rush through the end of the 1800s.

This museum far exceeded our expectations, even for the teenager in the group! The exhibits provided a great overview of the relationship between trains and California history, and the introductory movie was excellent. We especially enjoyed walking through some of the display cars, which gave us a glimpse into travelling styles of earlier periods. Its convenience to the historic area... More

This is a great museum!!! Real full size trains, a great art gallery, staff interact and explain the history in the museum. Prices very reasonable, $10 per adult. Also have a toy train museum.

Naturally much of the emphasis is on the building of the "first transcontinental railroad", especially the Central Pacific. But displays include much more. Three criticisms: photography is very difficult, much of the collection remains unpreserved and out of sight, and not much changes for the repeat visitor. The visitor experience includes the displays in a modest sized, happily air conditioned... More

had the best time walking through the museum and watching my sons eyes! He had never been up close and personal like this and he loves trains. They even have one that simulates motiona dn you think you are on the rails once you go inside. Incredible musuem learned a lot!

This is a really neat museum for all ages. We enjoyed spending several hours there. There are volunteers who used to work for the railroad and will tell you about the trains and give you personal insight. You get to walk through the post office train, dinner train, and several others. It's really cool; we loved it!

Excellent. My grandpa worked for Southern Pacific his entire life so it was very fun to see and tour.

We took our 3 year old grandson here to "burn off" some of his extra energy. Great place for them to see, learn, run, climb. They do have a children's section with toy trains for them to play with, but be warned it is usually a kid favorite and the kids don't want to leave.

What a great place. We met some friends and took our two year old to the museum. Along with a fun kids area, the trains are great for everyone. The museum did a great job explaining the exhibits and the different types of trains, tracks and everything else associated with them. I will be back the next time we are... More
