Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France. Mike then partnered with Austin Hills to open their family-owned-and-operated winery in 1977. Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, we farm our five estate vineyards without artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, rely on wild yeast fermentation and use our passion and art to handcraft food-friendly, balanced and elegant wines. « less

We came here as a group for a private tour and dinner. It was superb. We saw the vineyards and learned a lot about the history of the estate as well as wine making in general. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We tasted a variety of wines as well as several delicious cheeses. There was an opportunity to purchase... More

Great Estate winery. Good wines and the people are nice. Make an appointment. Grounds are simple but very well done. Good place to have a picnic next to vineyards.

Thank you for your visit and glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. We do need to point out that because of Napa County regulations, we are not allowed to have guests bring a picnic to the winery. You can order food ahead of time and arrange to enjoy it at the winery but we are not allowed to have... More

Having visited vineyards in Europe and in Croatia, Grgich Hills Estates embodies that old world experience. It is down to earth and lets the superb product carry the day. On our visit to the winery and vineyard we had a wonderful experience and were treated as people and not a ticket on an amusement ride like at many others. Our... More

On the winery spectrum, was our least favorite place to visit. Felt like being in a dungeon. Could use some updating. But each to his own when picking wines.

Thank you for your visit and your review. We bill our tours as a behind the scenes look at our winery. Mike Grgich learned winemaking in Croatia and we’re proud to retain that Old World winemaking style and look. Mike believes on focusing on the vineyards and winemaking practices and not spending money to make the cellar not look like... More

We had a lovely bottle of wine and a cheese platter at this beautiful Winery and our lovely hostess Gerlinde was so nice to us and give us a lot of history of the Area and made some fab recommendations. We went on up to the castle stopping along the way at the V.Sattui Winery at the best bakery and... More

Great history, knowledgable pourers, easy parking, good wine, beautiful grounds (aren't they all?). On left side of CA 29 North, if coming from San Francisco. Dozens of interesting wineries left and right along this route. This is a good one, but I would not necessarily rank this one any higher than a lot of others. So many wineries - so... More

Let me start by saying, that while we appreciate a good wine, we are not wine connoisseurs. (I even had to look up how to spell that!). However, we would rate our trip to Grgich Hills as a top experience in the valley. We decided on this winery because the owner, Mike Grgich, was the maverick who helped put California... More

We've been long time fans of Grgich wines but had not yet been by the winery until this trip. We sat outside on the patio & it was lovely. Very relaxing, casual & a beautiful setting. While listening the history Mr. Grgich came for a visit. We were able to meet him. That made this visit even more special. Go,... More

This was our first stop in March on our tour. We loved it. It had history, great wine, friendly service and simply beautiful. I would say this is a great first stop to set the mood for the trip. It has a very Italian look to it. You can be done in under 1/2 hour here and be on your... More
