Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France and revolutionizing the wine world. Mike then partnered with Austin Hills to open their family-owned-and-operated winery in 1977.Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, Grgich Hills farms five estate vineyards without artificial pesticides or herbicides, relying on wild yeast fermentation and uses its passion and art to handcraft food-friendly, balanced and elegant wines. « less

We traveled to Grgich Hills Estate via the Napa Valley Wine Train, and were treated to an educational tour of how the wines were made, and a delightful tasting of their five lovely wines hosted by their guide, Mike. He made the afternoon fly by with his witty repartee and sharing his knowledge of the wine industry. We were so... More

Toni was our guide and she was great. The tour was very thorough regarding the wine making process. The tasting with cheese pairing was fantastic. Toni provided subtle context and commentary during the tasting and was very helpful in answering a variety of questions. The history of the facility and the winemaker make the tasting and tour a unique experience.

Stopped by for a wine tasting. 5 quick pours were given without much commentary. Found it disappointing compared to tastings at other nearby wineries. Once we indicated we were not interested in buying wine, the pourer had a frosty attitude.

This was our hardy group's 3rd stop out of 4 for the day. We came after lunch at Bistro Don Giovanni and were ready for more wine. Tour guide was friendly & accommodating. While the tour of the facility is relatively short, we had access to some pretty good wines during our tasting. The keepsake wine glasses celebrating Mike's 90th... More

Nobody likes to be talked down to, but the other Mike at Grgich was prone to this- A couple of our party were quite upset by the guide and his slightly too smug approach to carrying out the tasting- we learnt more about him as a person and his 3000 plus wine bottle collection from his father that we needed/... Loved the wines. Our tasting host, Miguel, very informative and friendly. Loved looking at all the Paris tasting memorabilia. This is a stop on the winery train, so if you're doing that, don't do this on your own - you're going there anyway.

Our Host was excellent. We chose a $30 dollar tasting session, which had some wines that are not usually seen in the stores. He also offered to let us try others that were not part of the tasting session. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel welcome. coming from the uk we find Grgich wines hard... More

We really enjoyed our tasting experience at Grgich. Our tasting host was very knowledgeable and was full of interesting stories. He was so keen to have us try the full range if wines that our four-wine tasting became a seven-wine tasting! The tasting room is nothing special in terms of design or decor, but that is fine - it means... More
