Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France. Mike then partnered with Austin Hills to open their family-owned-and-operated winery in 1977. Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, we farm our five estate vineyards without artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, rely on wild yeast fermentation and use our passion and art to handcraft food-friendly, balanced and elegant wines. « less

Great history, knowledgable pourers, easy parking, good wine, beautiful grounds (aren't they all?). On left side of CA 29 North, if coming from San Francisco. Dozens of interesting wineries left and right along this route. This is a good one, but I would not necessarily rank this one any higher than a lot of others. So many wineries - so... More

Let me start by saying, that while we appreciate a good wine, we are not wine connoisseurs. (I even had to look up how to spell that!). However, we would rate our trip to Grgich Hills as a top experience in the valley. We decided on this winery because the owner, Mike Grgich, was the maverick who helped put California... More

We've been long time fans of Grgich wines but had not yet been by the winery until this trip. We sat outside on the patio & it was lovely. Very relaxing, casual & a beautiful setting. While listening the history Mr. Grgich came for a visit. We were able to meet him. That made this visit even more special. Go,... More

This was our first stop in March on our tour. We loved it. It had history, great wine, friendly service and simply beautiful. I would say this is a great first stop to set the mood for the trip. It has a very Italian look to it. You can be done in under 1/2 hour here and be on your... More

The ambiance here was disappointing. One of the servers said he was the son of the owner of Hills Bros. company - highly doubtful. The wines were blah in our opinion. We quickly paid the $20 tasting fee and left.

We were very disappointed to read that your visit was not great. We'd love to hear what you didn't like about your tasting experience. We've produced highly-rated winesfor 37 years so we we were surprised that you felt the wines were blah. We also need to point out that Justin Hills, whom you met, is the son of Austin Hills,... This is not a big winery, but the atmosphere for a tasting is excellent. Personal, attentive, informative, wonderful wines, and a lovely garden and patio to sit and sip wine and have an appetizer plate while you enjoy the wine! Historical, family owned-Mike Ggich is a founding father with a wonderful reputation in Napa Valley-go and see why. If you... More

We walked in to looked around and one of the wine experts was 'hollering' at us to come on over. He shouted at us several times. When we came over he was nice enough but kept saying how busy it was and how many rich people came up on the weekend. He bragged about how much wine they sell. I... More

Linda introduced me to Grgich wines and the history behind it. She was terrific and so gracious. Grgich Hills Estate was just what I expected a winery to be with its beautiful rows of sun-drenched vines, gorgeous roses, and lovely jewel of a building. I was surprised by the Fume Blanc. I usually prefer Pinot Noirs and Merlots. This experience... More

What a great tasting I had with Jeff. The moment I arrived at the winery I knew this was going to be special. I had scheduled a private tasting online. When I got there, it ended up just being me, and my host for the day Jeff. He gave me a tour of the winery and we walked along the... More

We had never heard of Grgich Hills until it was recommended by a friend. This is where we first heard the term biodynamic, and were impressed at this way of growing grapes. It's a step beyond organic, and the staff were happy to share their knowledge. I also have to admit that I am not generally a fan of Chardonnay,... More
