Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France and revolutionizing the wine world. Mike then partnered with Austin Hills to open their family-owned-and-operated winery in 1977.Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, Grgich Hills farms five estate vineyards without artificial pesticides or herbicides, relying on wild yeast fermentation and uses its passion and art to handcraft food-friendly, balanced and elegant wines. « less

I am impressed that this winery is organic and biodynamic the way that they make their wine and the owner's story of how he made to where this winery is today More

We took a tour of Grgich Hills Estate in December 2011 and found that it was well worth the money ($35 per person). We were led all around the estate and learned about all aspects of the wine making process. Along the way we tasted a variety of wines, including several that were not included in the original tour. Our... More

We love Grgich Hills! The customer service and attention to detail was amazing! Linda poured for us. She is probably the friendliest person around! When we got there the tasting room was very busy, but she poured us a generous glass of chardonnay while we waited. Once we started tasting, she was incredibly knowledgeable about the wine. I think the... More

They gave us some extra tastes. I think they knew we weren't going to buy much so they acted a little distracted. Good wines, I often buy them in the store. More

I love red wine. But, I get bored of tasting at several wineries and only seeing 1 token white that is usually not very good. Red is great and we drink a lot of it with meals and when we entertain. However, we also drink a lot of white. Grgich has a wonderful array of both. We joined the wine... More

You have to make Grgich Hills one of your stops in the Wine Country. We visited with family, the four of us were celebrating special anniversaries, and our experience at Grgich added great memories. We had a private tasting in the cellar room - it was phenomenal. Linda, our your guide, knows her business. She had great attention to detail.... More

The day we visited they were 'Stomping Grapes'....a riotous time! Take off your shoes and socks and jump into a vat of grapes and go at it. Pictures taken with your camera by the host and when you step out of the vat you are stepping onto a white T-shirt (that you purchase). Those grape-stained feet provide a lasting 'impression'... We dropped in at Grgich Winery because I had read that Mike Grgich made the 1973 Chardonnay that won the "Judgement of Paris" (Bottle Shock Movie, though different from the book). We had a 2-for-1 tasting coupon and also got to keep the Grgich Winery glasses which were pretty nice! Imagine how excited I was to find Mike (88 years... More

There are dozens of wineries and tasting rooms along the length of Napa and Sonoma Valleys, all wonderful in their own right; however, Grgich Hills is a cut above. Croatian-born Mike Grgich's world-class Chardonnay was featured in the movie "Bottle Shock" about California wines beating out the best of France in 1976, and their quality today is top notch.
