Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

Well worth the climb

A bit of a climb down and (even more so) up, but well worth it. Also make sure to read outtakes from the diaries of the people who worked here back in the day.

Very scenic and special place, definitely worth the trip. The lighthouse and the stairs going down will be closed if it is too windy, however it is still incredible view just from the top. Young children or senior might not be able to hike down and back the stairs,

45 minute drive from Bear Valley visitor center on windy roads. Will see deer, cow, chickens and maybe a coyote on the way there. Small parking lot with restroom (pit latrines) available. Walk 0.4 miles up hill to the small visitor center. Real toilets available here- just to the left and before visitor center. Beautiful views. 308 steps down to... More

The parking area closest to the lighthouse is small and numerous cars were parked along the side of the road. The walk from the road to the Visitor Center is 0.4 miles and from the Visitor Center down to the lighthouse is over 300 steps. The sign at the top says that it is equivalent to climbing a 30-story building.... More

First, if you are visiting the Point Reyes Lighthouse, make to charge that phone or camera. You will definitely spend much time taking photos of the views. It is a walk to reach the lighthouse but it is defiantly worth the trip. Being in an open environment, you will need a sweater to keep warm when visiting the light house... More

I love taking the hike to the Point Reyes Lighthouse! There are 301 steps, I believe, with ramps in between as well. In total, my phone told me that I climbed 36 flights of stairs on my way back up! There are plenty of resting points on the way up for the less athletically inclined (like me). The views on... More

We enjoyed our hike to Point Reyes Lighthouse. The views of the Pacific Ocean are stunning on a clear day. (Note: There are some days where its very foggy so try to pick a clear day for the hike). its wonderful to get to the lighthouse area. There are numerous stairs to go down to the lighthouse. It is good... More

This is what the CA ocean side should look like, to me. Wildlife, crashing waves, crisp clean air, sea animals. Indeed, it can be cold and windy, which keeps the area so pristine. This is such a beautiful section of the coast. I have not been inside of the Lighthouse but enjoy the ride there, the views, and the experience... More

So beautiful! Go here even if the lighthouse is closed. The view is breathtaking. It is also pretty windy and chilly here so dress warm.
