Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

Beautiful views and interesting history. Long drive from the visitor center - 45 minutes of cows in the fields. Limited parking when you arrive and lots of stairs. Climb down not too bad - climb up strenuous if your not in great shape.

It's a long drive out to the Point Reyes Lighthouse, but well worth the trip. The drive has its own attractions, passing through a number of historic ranches. There is parking for the lighthouse at the end of the road. You then have to walk in another quarter mile or so along the rangers' driveway to reach the stairway down... More

One of the most Fogy and windiest location the the Us. If the wind reaches 40 mph or more they close this location. There are many steeps to walk down remember you have to walk back up. This location has many activities in to adventure around. This is a good family with walking ability.

Wear your most comfortable athletic shoes and layer up... I wore a tank under my light jacket and was very happy I did. Have lots of fun facts to read in the car about the area... or plans for entertaining little ones (I spy games ect.) bc the drive to the actual lighthouse is quite long (but beautiful). Along the... The hike to the lighthouse is just right for children and seniors. The view is fantastic. The weather is cool enough but not cold. One of the best parts was learning about how the lighthouse keepers lived and reading their log.

The Lighthouse is reached by walking from a parking area and down a steep set of stairs on the edge of the cliff; weather is usually misty, chilly. It is the site of transient whale-watching in the season, which as I recall is Spring. The path to the stairs has the classic CA bent-over trees from the wind of the... More

The walk to the lighthouse steps is fairly short and flat. Then you go down 300+ steps to reach the lighthouse. It was unique traveing down (rather than up) to see the lighthouse. Definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately it was not a clear day when we visited but still cool to see.

Cool Light House at the bottom of a zillion stair steps. Getting to this place was a cool journey. It was foggy but interesting. Park ranger was interesting to talk to. Lots of cool info to see in ranger station. It is not a place for someone with walking problems.

Here's the warning I wish I'd seen before going... This is not a good place to bring anyone who might have difficulty with a long-ish walk and very long/steep climb upstairs. (not ideal for young children, elderly or people with a physical disability). That being said... the views here are incredible! It's a bit of a drive out to this... More

The LIghthouse isa beautiful site. Weather does have an impact on your visit. Even on a cloudy day you can take the 308 steps up and down and see the Lighthouse. By the time we were back at the car, the clouds had rolled on by and the view was magnificent.
