Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

I've been to Point Reyes in the summer, fall, and winter, during foggy, windy, rainy, freezing days. The best time to visit is early April! Perfect gorgeous clear sunny days with just a hint of breeze to cool off!

The drive to the Lighthouse from Pt. Reyes Station takes about half an hour and is gorgeous, especially in late March when the wildflowers are blooming. From the parking lot, it's a short walk out to the Lighthouse with spectacular views. Not to be missed!

We spent several hours here on a self- driven excursion from San Francisco. The views are spectacular and if you're lucky enough to visit when grey whales are migrating it is one of the best places in California to see this wonderful, natural phenomenon. The docents are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful.

The view from the lighthouse is spectacular, especially for whale watching. I was there in both January and March. The volunteer docents both times were very knowledgeable and helpful in spotting whales and identifying birds. The explanation we heard on our March visit about the history and mechanics of the lighthouse itself, as well as the view of the wonderfully... More

My wife and I where visiting San Francisco and drove out to The light house. The drive in itself was beautiful with plenty places to explorer along the way. Once we got on to the peninsular where it is located we drove along rolling hills with a view of the pacific ocean and dairy farms. From the parking lot it... More

If it is whale migration season, pack a sandwich and plan to stay a while. On my recent trip In mid March 2015 we saw at least 30 whales in a 4 hour period. Wear layers, it can be very cold or pleasantly warm, foggy or clear, windy or calm, and it can be all of the above during the... More

We stayed at the Black Heron Inn outside of Point Reyes Station so it was about a 45 minute drive to the lighthouse. The scenery on the drive was beautiful and the hike down to the lighthouse was great. We saw whales and then got to tour the lighthouse. The climb back up is a little tough but seeing the... More

We loved the lighthouse. Remote. Very nice in a heavy fog. It was a real trek to get up the 300 steps to the lighthouse. There are rest stations along the way, however.

was the lighthouse worth the trek down those 388 (i think it was 388) steps? not really but i only did it because why not?! it wasn't as bad as i thought it would've been. and when i finally reached the top again, i was rewarded with some whales! i wouldn't come here again unless it was for whale-watching. but...
