Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

Here's the warning I wish I'd seen before going... This is not a good place to bring anyone who might have difficulty with a long-ish walk and very long/steep climb upstairs. (not ideal for young children, elderly or people with a physical disability). That being said... the views here are incredible! It's a bit of a drive out to this... More

The LIghthouse isa beautiful site. Weather does have an impact on your visit. Even on a cloudy day you can take the 308 steps up and down and see the Lighthouse. By the time we were back at the car, the clouds had rolled on by and the view was magnificent.

Loved this place. The walk all the way down is a little daunting but the views are totally worth it. We were able to see several whales from the walkway near the lighthouse. There are always several serious viewers nearby with spotting scopes and high powered binos that are more than willing to point out a whale or two for... More

Plan for a walk it is 300 steep steps up and down plus a long walk to the park. But once out near the lighthouse the view is breathtaking. There are park rangers around to answer questions and you get to go into the lighthouse. There is no fee to enter the park nor to enter the lighthouse. If your... More

Free, it's totally free! A long and windy road to get there. Have a warm jacket-sweater available as the wind gets chilly. Be prepared to be awed, really awed. Incredible views on the short walk from tiny parking lot to lighthouse. Lighthouse is closed tues & wed but still worth it. Visit this whether local or tourist like me...It has... More

If you are lucky and it's the right time of year, this is one of the best places to see the humpback whales on their annual migration to and from Mexico. You'll see them spouting their spouts from the overlook. It's a nice hike to the lighthouse and even if you don't see whales, it's a great view from here.

The lighthouse is open Fri. through Mon. It is about a 30 minute drive to the lighthouse from the Bear Valley Visitor's Center. From the parking lot, it can be a windy walk to the rangers station. Then 300+ stairs down to the lighthouse. There is a bench a long the way where you can stop to rest. It can... More

Don't end your trip to the northern California coast without a visit to the Point Reyes Headlands and the iconic Lighthouse. If you are an avid birdwatcher, whale watcher, geologist, or a maritime or lighthouse enthusiast, this popular destination has it all. The area is protected by two national marine sanctuaries: Cordell Bank and the Gulf of the Farallones. These... More

We drove for miles along this winding road and the scenery was interesting, but when we finally got to the parking area for the lighthouse and parked our car, we found that there was no way for us to get up to the lighthouse. It was a long uphill walk. I can walk, but I'm fairly handicapped with bad knees.... More
