Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

The small museum is wonderful. The ranger in charge is very knowledgeable. They spotted some whales from the lighthouse and called up to the museum so we could see them. It is a very long walk down to the lighthouse but so much to see from the viewing are at the top. The signs show were the penquin looking birds... More

It felt like forever driving out there, but it was completely worth it once we made it! The weather was very chilly with the wind. Be sure to keep your camera firmly gripped in your hands otherwise you might drop it because of the strong winds. Unfortunately when we arrived the gate down to the lighthouse was closed. The lighthouse... More

I have been here on many occasions. Each time, I learn when and when not to go. The best time is when they open at 10. There is not a lot of crowd and parking is plenty. If you go in the afternoon, parking can be difficult and your trek will be long. Either way, the lighthouse continues to amaze... More

We visited on a foggy day, which is quite common. It is a long walk (304 steps plus two long step-free climbs to the lighthouse. It has not been lit for 40 years, but the huge fresnel lens and the spinning mechanism, plus the clock work are still present and look almost new. It is also a good place to... More

This place is not easy to get to and a little perilous having to navigate winding roads on cliffs and a bit far from civilization. However once there, the views of the stunning California coast, miles and miles of it is truly a sigh to behold, the gnarly old trees alone the path going up to the lighthouse are beautiful... More

I've been to Point Reyes in the summer, fall, and winter, during foggy, windy, rainy, freezing days. The best time to visit is early April! Perfect gorgeous clear sunny days with just a hint of breeze to cool off!

The drive to the Lighthouse from Pt. Reyes Station takes about half an hour and is gorgeous, especially in late March when the wildflowers are blooming. From the parking lot, it's a short walk out to the Lighthouse with spectacular views. Not to be missed!

We spent several hours here on a self- driven excursion from San Francisco. The views are spectacular and if you're lucky enough to visit when grey whales are migrating it is one of the best places in California to see this wonderful, natural phenomenon. The docents are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful.

The view from the lighthouse is spectacular, especially for whale watching. I was there in both January and March. The volunteer docents both times were very knowledgeable and helpful in spotting whales and identifying birds. The explanation we heard on our March visit about the history and mechanics of the lighthouse itself, as well as the view of the wonderfully... More
