I was looking forward to this part of my trip and was not disappointed. The lighthouse and scenery from it were wonderful. We did not see any whales but that was because of the time of the year. Yes, there are stairs but it is so beautiful as you take them that you really can go at a leisure pace... More

We loved this adventure. My wife and I traveled to the Point Reyes seashore after visiting the Muir Woods on a Sunday. The drive along the Pacific Coast Highway (CA1) was only part of the adventure. Despite the heavy summer fog along the seashore the sights and sounds of the coast were enough to make this trip special. Arrive early,... More

If you are in a bad shape lately, you are going to wish you took care of yourselves lately. The climb back from the lighthouse is quite a workout. It was windy and chilly at the lighthouse, so I work a pullover on top of my shirt. By the time I climbed back, I was sweating. However, the effort was... More

We were driving up the coast and decided to go to the lighthouse. If you are doing this as a side trip remember it is a long drive ( although scenic) to the lighthouse and back to the highway. Once you make it to the parking lot it is a good uphill walk to the stairs leading to the lighthouse... More

I went on a trip to San Francisco with my daughters and rented a car to take the hour and 20 min drive up to Point Reyes. The site was so incredibly beautiful that I cannot imagine anyone visiting the area without making this a priority. The views were breathtaking. Keep in mind if you visit there to be sure... More

Visited Point Reyes in early March 2014. Was told by my brother that we could see whales from the lighthouse. The hike up to the lighthouse is fairly long and winding. If you have heart problems, I would not recommend hiking up to the lighthouse. But once you're up at the lighthouse, the view is tremendous. Blue water as far... More

We spent my birthday at the National seashore last year. Be sure to pack a lunch as there is no food inside the park. We stopped at one of the little stores near the park's perimeter and got sandwiches and drinks. The parking lot near the lighthouse is very small and limited. The walk is pretty smooth and then you... More

Loved the location and going down (and up!) the 300 steps is absolutely worth it- simply arrive before 16:30 when they close the gate. If you are lucky the wind will be insane and you will feel at the end of the world

The gate to the stairs leading to the lighthouse is locked after 4pm and never opened on Tuesdays as far as we could tell. We walked to the platform above the lighthouse and hung out for about an hour to watch the sunset. It was spectacular and not at all windy so we lucked out. I would love to go... More

Visitors should know that from the Bear Valley visitors center it is a 40 minute drive out to the lighthouse at the point of Point Reyes. Leave time to visit and try to get there early to avoid the crowd at the parking lot, which is small for the very large number of people who visit. We were lucky to... More
