Beauty at its own. With adventurous hiking trails, lakes, streams, fishing, camping, picnicking. You can do anything in this forest, even live. The forest was my backyard for 18 yrs and every day was new. Wild flowers, animals, birds. Whispering winds just beauty that surrounds.

It was beautiful, the river was flowing, We saw lots of deer in the meadows. We did not have time for any hiking but I would want to return in the spring sometime I... More

Summers and fall are spectacular, great campgrounds - make your reservations early - there are lakes, rivers, great trails to hike. The Eldorado is the gateway to Desolation Wilderness, but you need a permit - it is so well-loved that there has to be a quota system to keep the wilderness wild and give a great experience. There are many... More

This entire area is beyond belief, there is something for everyone. You don't have to get out of the car to enjoy it. So amazing. I love Tahoe and all the surrounding areas.

The Eldorado NF is a great place to visit, especially during the summer. While the Sac Valley is hot, the Eldorado is high enough to have warm days (comfortable) and cool nights. Many campgrounds (both Forest Service and privately run). You are close to South Lake Tahoe for what Tahoe has to offer, but only an hour east of Sacramento.

I was there yesterday and seen a bear in the camp site(not unusual). After hearing stories from family who had been there for a week, the bear wasn't new to the camp ground. This bear is very smart and is not easily scared away. It also likes to get up close and personal (which was my personal experience). I ended... More
