Petaluma is blessed to have a gem like Shollenberger Park. The park is a 2 mile loop through wetlands and along the edge of the Petaluma River. There are always lots of birds and the area can look different from one visit to another depending on the time of year and how much water is in the middle. It's a... More

I walked the park loop twice so far this week. I have seen Canadian Geese by the 10's, at least 15 huge white swans, hundreds of ducks, a bunch of smaller black birds with brilliant red wings, and many other wild bird species. I can feel my blood pressure drop the minute I enter the walkways.

I go there a few times a week to walk with friends. Each time I see something new and lovely. Awhile back there were even swans! Benches along the path provide nice places to relax and enjoy the beauty.

Loved the swans! This was a flat easy stroll with plenty of parking. Porta Potty there, but no water. We are from out of town so we had a little trouble finding it.

Don't miss the artificial wetlands south of Shollenberger. Lots of frogs and birds. Lots of information about the water treatment facility.

The day we went it was too cold and windy to enjoy . The wetlands had dried up due to the statewide drought. The signage was confusing among all the businesses.

This park is a great little walk. I love watching all the different birds in the area. However, the last time I went, the water was incredibly low due to the drought.

The destination of my daily bike trip is Schollenberger Park. Wending my way from town center, the sweet reward of this sanctuary makes it my personal local treasure. A wonderful place to note the changing seasons, wildlife, and commune with nature.
