Love this little park! There is a nice little loop about 2 miles. In the spring and fall there's an abundant of shorebirds in the ponds and land birds galore. It's a beautiful walk in nature.

We came to stretch our legs during a recent trip to Petaluma. This is a great stroll through ponds and wetlands near the river. There are a few geocaches there also. Certain time of the year swans are on the ponds, but this time we saw avocets, egrets, blue herons, various ducks, and I think an eagle or some large... More

I adore Shollenberger Park. It's totally unique and filled with tons of birds and other animals that are absolutely gorgeous to see firsthand. The walking trail is flat and in the bright sun, so be sure to bring a hat. And use the bathroom before you begin your hike! Also, at certain times of the year, the algae will cause... More

Depending on the season, the water at Shollenberger varies in existence. More water = more birds to observe. Part of the path is paved (1/3-1/4) and the remainder is DG type of material. You can see the Petaluma River (slough) from the path. Good place to walk with your friends, family on this circular path. Can get quite breezy depending... More

If it's not raining you must go during the spring or winter. The variety of birds and wildlife is astounding. The walk is easy, can be made longer or shorter depending on our route, and filled with gorgeous scenery and music from the nature. It's my go to place when I'm not in the mood to exercise because it's an... More

Best part about this attraction is that it is so close to the city. Top rate birding spot, with many water birds and quite a few land birds as well. Most of it is very level and an easy walk. Don't miss the additional paths on the nearby Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility. Lots of birds there as well. If... More

When I moved to Petaluma from Marin I was happy to be there, but missed the hiking and walking trails that are so prevalent in Marin. I was happy to discover Shollenberger Park. It's a great place for a nice walk and even for running. I take my dog (on leash) and we can go for a miles or miles... More

This is an ok quick walk if you are in Petaluma, it's full of water birds and in summer and fall there's a pretty strong odor. Since you are basically in view of an office complex, I do this when I need a quick, convenient walk near Petaluma. And...then only in winter/early spring...No way would I travel out of my... More

Not only is this a great place to walk but it's also a great place to bird watch. Easy access to Hwy 101 and Lakeville Hwy, a beautifully well maintained wetlands that gives you a feeling of being in the country yet close to town. Bring a picnic or go into town and eat at one of the many charming... More
