Description: The Merrill Family's agricultural heritage and grape growing history dates...
The Merrill Family's agricultural heritage and grape growing history dates back at least 8 generations on California's Central Coast. A former family ranch still is home to a grape arbor planted in the 19th century. Today Dana and Marsha Merrill and son Matthew farm the vineyards, while Matthew's winemaking is complemented by winemaker par excellent, Jim Shumate. After nearly 30 years of growing grapes for many of the finest wineries in California, ranging from ultra premium small producers to the largest international brands, the Merrill's decided to produce their own wines. In addition to the family estate, the finest blocks of grapes from Santa Barbara and Monterey Counties are selected from vineyards managed by a sister firm, Mesa Vineyard Management, Inc. All wines produced are exclusively farmed by the Merrills who believe that control from planting and pruning through harvest, fementation and cellaring is critical for success. It also ensure a uniform dedication to Sustainability, which led our recent Certification to the SIP program within the Central Coast Vineyard Team. The family believes in community and industry involvement. Dana Merrill was the first San Luis Obispo County Chair of the California Assn of Winegrape Growers, a charter member of the pioneering vineyard Sustainability group, the Central Coast Vineyard Team and is a past two term Director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance.

It is worth a short drive to Templeton to go to Pomar Junction. Terrific reds and whites. You can have your tasting outdoors looking at the trains and growing vines as far as the eye can see. Tasting room staff was delightful, warm and made it a great experience. Don't miss this stop in your wine day.

Very Friendly staff, and the tasting room was a cute old farmhouse with beautiful views of the vineyards and the 2 train cars that sit outside. There was a lot of medal winning wines to try. We bought a bottle here since one of their wines was a favorite out of all the other wineries that we visited.

I have been wanting to stop at Pomar Junction for some time now. I am a big fan of the smaller wineries on the east side of the 101. We stopped at Pomar on our way back to Fresno after picking up wine club shipments from four other wineries over the weekend. The grounds were very nice and the views... More

Hi Tammy, First, let me thank you for visiting us here in the tasting room. I am so sorry to hear your experience was anything short of stellar. Second only to making sure our wines are incredible we pride our selves on our customer service. The gratuity at the end of each transaction is completely optional, and I thank you... More

Visit this winery to combine good vino, a laid back environment, scenery and trains! Woo! Woo! My wife and I did not dislike anything about this winery.

Pomar Junction was part of our organised wine tour. We were delighted to sit outside with our small group to sample the wine. We were given a good choice of a variety of wines allowing us, as a couple, to try more of the varieties on offer. The setting is stunning and well worth a visit. The wine was good... More

I am new to wine tasting. But I loved this winery. I loved the trains and just the whole rustic feel of this winery. And of course the wine was pretty good too. I would recommend picnicking at this winery, We wished we had brought a picnic lunch as the grounds are beautiful. We loved the onsite shopping too.

We visited the area for Harvest Festival weekend - - we stopped at Pomar for their Train Wreck FRI, which is an event that consists of a live band, wine tasting and food. We paid the $10 per person and set our folding chairs on the lawn in front of the band. The live music was fun as we ate... More

Cute little winery and grounds. Wasn't overly impressed, only walked away with one bottle (which is rare for me!) and that was mainly just to have something from every stop. I think the staff was busy getting ready for Harvest Wine Weekend, but they didn't seem very attentive or warm. We were tasting at the same time as another couple... More

If you have not tried Pomar Junction, you are missing out, They have improved dramatically in the past year and I see a very big improvement to come, the wines are so tasty and they have great events. The new Trainwreck wine coming out now is going to be an award winner in my prediction. A beautiful setting to enjoy... More
