We have a weekend house here but ever once went to this museum because the weather is always so fabulous. Well, last Sunday it was pouring so we thought we'd do some indoor activities and visit the museum. We really regretted that this was our fist visit. The museum is absolutely fabulous, big enough for many hours of exploring and... More

A fabulous new building housing a great art collection. Quite strong in sculpture. Really an amazing collection for such a small city. We were lucky enough to see the Ai Weiwei bronze zodiac heads.

The Art Museum in Palm Springs is intimately scaled with a broad representation of North American and european art and sculpture. We were pleasantly surprised to see Gavin Turk, Anthony Gormley and Duane Hanson represented in the gallery.

Nice mix of artworks from ancient pottery to modern art. It's a nice way to spend a late afternoon or evening.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is great for people who love modern art. They usually have interesting exhibitions and a great collection of modern at (my favorite is the blue Nicole Chesney piece). But I also like the exhibits of Indian baskets and other Indian artifacts that link to the past.

True a lot of visitors will go in merely because its air conditioned! But don't forget the building itself is a museum piece - built between 1974 and 1976 - it was designed as its own work of art. There are several floors grouped by subject matter and easy to navigate. Don't forget the sculpture garden on the basement level.
