We drove the southern half of Palms to Pines Scenic Byway out of Palm Desert on a Sunday morning as a scenic route through the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. We were rewarded with very light traffic and stunning views of the sunrise over the Coachella Valley. The road is curvy but... More

A suggestion of things to do by the Desert Riviera Hotel was to drive up to Idyllwild in the Mountains. Great! The beginning stretch from rte 10 to 243 and up the mt was an incredible trip. All is paved and two lanes and most sections have guard rails but there are some switchbacks and white knuckle moments. The trip... More

Don't miss this amazing drive if you're in the area. It is an impressive feat of road engineering that gives you access to spectacular views, amazing changes in scenery and a charming California style mountain community at the end. There are plenty of well marked spots to pull over and let the traffic pass if you're not into rally driving... More

This 50+ mile drive between Palm Desert and Idyllwild CA passes through the Santa Rosa-San Jacinto National Monument and includes fantastic views with several pull outs along its length, starting close to Sea Levl and topping out at nearly 6000 feet of elevation in Idyllwild, a quaint small mountain town with several restaurants, boutiques as well as access to many... We took this drive from Palm Springs yesterday and although we are enjoying the desert it was really great to see pine trees and draw in some fresh crisp cool air! The drive had some challenges but certainly not difficult...just keep your eyes on the road...it is certainly twisty windy but the scenic stops are beautiful. The little town of... More

Great scenery on this circuit from Palm Desert and back into Palm Springs. Parts of the route requires the driver's undivided attention for sure but there are a fair number of vista points to check out the scenery. We found the ride to be not nearly as treacherous as some reviews suggest and we are from the Canadian prairies. A... More

Have been driving this road for so many years to get to San Diego from here in the Coachella Valley. The title speaks for itself. It starts at the bottom of Hwy 74 in Palm Desert, with palm trees, and you drive to idylllwild, and are greeted by pine trees. Great day trip or Saturday adventure. Stop at Vista Point... More

While we were visiting our son for Christmas in Palm Springs, we decided to drive to the pacific coast for a day trip. Instead of going the freeway, we took this mountain byway. It was beautiful. There is a look out about halfway up. Be sure to stop for the view and a pic. The road was very windy and... More

We drove this road in the dark enroute from Grand Canyon to San Diego. We trusted GPS to get us there and GPS took us up and down this route. We were lucky to avoid snow, but I had the feeling the views were amazing. We drove past a few view points that you can pull into. The speed limit... More

We read about this scenic drive but were really delighted to discover beautiful rock formations, views, scenic stops and snow just minutes outside of Palm Desert. It is 76deg in Palm Desert but as we climbed to just past 3000ft on the drive we reached little pockets of snow here and there alongside the cactus. We only ventured as far... More
