Extensive zoo with lots of desert animals and plants. A tram is available if you get tired but there is an additional charge. There is lots of room here, and lots of animals to see: giraffes, tigers, etc. Excellent volunteers throughout who are friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of natural landscape makes this more appealing than most zoos that are covered... More

Whilst obviously hot there are plenty of cool sprinklers around and some shaded area. The many animals and plants are well labelled and explained. Take plenty of water or buy it there. It is a well organised walk. Cover up and use sunscreen so you can relax as you explore the world of the desert.

It is probably a wonderful zoo and botanical garden, but in 113 degree heat, nothing could be fun. I rode the tram around a couple of times and it was just too hot to enjoy anything.

Although it was hot, I was able to tour 2/3rds of it in approximately 1 1/2 hrs. Working water fountains supplemented my own supply. Hospital docents were very informative. Push button short videos there allowed you to be selective in your interests. Price of soft drinks and water at $3.75 was high.

Overall this should be seen, especially if you have an interest in wildlife in the desert. But there are some animals that are native to Africa. Worth a visit just to see the giraffes!!

Definitely worth seeing for the African animals alone. They must have felt quite at home because it was about 100 degrees! Up-close giraffes were a favorite, and the cheetah lounging under a tree watching us as we watched him from a bench, seemingly very close! Also loved the walk-through aviary: many amazing and large! birds. Thankfully there were several places... More

If we return to Palm Springs on a day when it is not broiling, I would come back here to tour the grounds and walk the trails. It was so hot that the misters did not even reach the ground! The air evaporated before it could!! If you go, go early when they open - it might be cooler and... More

The Living Desert is a terrific place to take a walk, learn about plants, or see animals in a pleasant setting. Kids will love it, and docents provide opportunity to interact with the animals and lean. One of the best-loved attractions in the Coachella Valley, and a trailhead for a hike up Eisenhower Mountain with some of the best views... More

Don't plan to make this zoo in the midday, many of the animals are most active dawn and dusk. Truly a great Holiday/Christmas display.
