My family was in awe of the gigantic model train on display here. Probably the best we've ever seen. The giraffe exhibit was gorgeous. The kids play area was creative and loved. We loved seeing all the variety of cactus, since we're from the midwest. Definitely bring a stroller, there's a lot of ground to cover.

The living desert is wonderful for adults but to an 8 year old (I’ll call him Matt), well let’s see what happens. Me. “What are you looking forward to the most?” Matt. “I really like the bighorn sheep. They are so cool. And I like the giraffes, they are so tall. Taller than Jimmy’s dad and he’s super tall!” Me.... More

Even if you live in the desert this would be a must see. We were here in the mid-80's and it was very interesting and educational, much more so now. Wonderfull to see the desert life close up and everything doing well. We will be going again in the future.

We had a very pleasant and relaxed couple of hours wandering through the various exhibits in these well tended grounds. There were good explanations of desert plants and micro environments and some interesting animals in well kept conditions. The only regret we had was not going early enough to walk the trail they have along part of the San Andreas... More

I really enjoyed the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens. It was cool and rainy on the day I went. All the animals were moving around so there was a lot to see. Feeding the giraffes was fun. I loved hearing all the little kids giggling when their big tongues jetted out. I had on a plastic rain poncho I bought... More

Years ago, I went with a group of young people, and enjoyed it. However, it has improved and enlarged quite a bit since then, and when my husband and I took some family to see it, we very much enjoyed the experience. There are flora and fauna from many desert areas around the world, including Africa and the United States,... More

I really enjoyed my visit here. I liked the focus on both African as well as North American desert animals and plants. We found that 2 hours was plenty of time to see everything. My favorites were the giraffes, zebras and the North American plants.

Last year I refused to go to this zoo. For some reason I thought it was a snake/reptile place. Far from it! Yes--there is a reptile building, but most of the zoo is a 1.5 mile walk through various desert settings (North America, Africa, etc) with the animals that inhabit those areas. It is fascinating, educational, and a natural environment--meaning... More
