This is a great little "old school" natural history museum. You can walk around at your own leisure and explore. Plan to spend about an hour, unless you are really into reading all the displays. There is a small little gift shop, aimed mostly at children. Tip: Avoid going in the morning on a weekday during the school year if... More

This is an old-fashioned museum -- lots of displays, without multimedia enhancements. And it's a little creepy, with a lot of taxidermy. But the great thing about taxidermied animals is that you can really study them because you can get close and they're standing still, unlike in a zoo. And there are whale bones and fossils and animals you can... More

We loved it, we learned about the Monarch butterflies, great display and video on the migration. Many animals donated in the museum. Highly recommended especially for children.

Just the right sort of museum with a curator/docent that cares, in a friendly, charming town. I particularly enjoyed the large display of mounted birds.

This is a great place to visit. While it is still free, please consider a donation to keep access available to all. There are lots of butterflies and exhibits on the phases of the Monarch Butterfly lifecycle. Local birds and mammals, snakes and bugs are exhibited. There are lots of species to see and well laid out. We have been... More

I happened to walk past and was curious and walked in, i felt like i'd regressed back to a child on a school trip, lots of stuffed animals decades and decades old...watch for the evil black one in the corner that looks like he's watching you...also, good overview of the area and great git shop, all the volunteers, who work... We always stop by this museum when visiting Pacific Grove. We don't see a natural history of this magnitude very often outside of the very big cities. Before I enter the door, I'm immediately faced with a female mountain lion exhibit, a rarity in this area, leading to an explosion in the deer population. The museum used to have a... More

There is a park where Monarch butterflies congregate and bunch up together for warmth in the trees. There are docents with telescopes set up below to help those looking for the butterflies. Very cool that this museum provides this service off site.

We enjoyed our visit to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. It's small but there's something interesting for everyone. Taxidermy animals and birds, a whale exhibit, a collectors exhibit, gemology and more packed into a tiny museum building. There was also a special exhibit on Monarch Butterflies which was really interesting and well done. There's no admission fee -... More

If for no other reason, the huge collection of stuffed birds makes it worth visiting. This museum is small, but it contains a wealth of natural history of this interesting peninsula.
