Stephan's review isn't valid--the temple doesn't reveal itself when you just drive by. This is one of the largest, if not THE largest intact Gold-Rush era Chinese Temple Complexes in California. The temple is filled with period artifacts that have been there since the 1840s. In addition, there is a recreation of the Fong Lee herb shop & gold buying... More

Ancient artifacts, beautiful building and temple, giant bamboo. Pieces from the Imperial Palace, the oldest Chinese temple in the US. A must see if you're visiting Oroville.

The Oroville Chinese temple is still functional, not just an interesting bit of history. There was a substantial Chinese population in Oroville, once the largest Chinese population outside of China, and the temple was a center of that community. Downtown Oroville has extensive tunnels under the streets placed by, according to local legend, Chinese who were searching or gold. A... More

It is in a residential area, opposite what I can only describe as a levy. The only reason I paid a visit was because of the knowledge of a local resident and friend. There were so many Chinese living in the area due to the gold rush and railway construction that the... More

I've taken international students here for tours but have also taken out-of-town friends. It's often much cooler there in summer because of the brick walls and shaded patio. They also have a lovely koi pond.

I always take may guest to the temple. It is great and son beautiful inside. People come from China to look at our temple. I have to go back this week I read in the paper about a new addition to the temple.
