Description: The Ojai Valley Museum is the only museum in Ojai, California and has...
The Ojai Valley Museum is the only museum in Ojai, California and has served its community for 46 years. The mission of the museum is to bridge the past with future of Ojai with a permanent exhibition on Ojai History in the new "John and Ginger Wilson Memorial Gallery". The Rotating Gallery features 4 original exhibitions a year which run 10 weeks each. The Ojai Valley Museum of History and Art is housed in a 1918 National Historic Landmark church. Its 5000 foot facility has a Permanent Gallery exhibiting Ojai's history; a walk-in diorama of the Sespe Wilderness; a Museum Store with products related directly to the mission of the museum which is "Ojai". The Rotating Gallery mounts 4 original exhibits a year describing Ojai's art, history, and culture. The temporary exhibitions change every 6 to 10 weeks. The museum has gone through a $150,000 renovation on the original chapel space dedicated in 1918. The museum closed its doors between January and April 19th 2014 to undergo the renaissance. The completely renovated Sanctuary Gallery housing the semi-permanent exhibits on Ojai History re-opened to the public in late April, 2014. Come see our new galleries and exhibits devoted to the history, art and culture of Ojai.

The Ojai Museum located in an old Spanish style building on the main street has lots of informative exhibits about the history of Ojai and the surrounding areas including the people who originally settled Ojai. There is also a big exhibit about the founder of AARP which was started right there in Ojai.

Inside the original mission style Catholic Church donated by actress Loretta Young. Great exhibits of early Nordhoff/Ojai as well as xlnt contemporary Ojai material. Easy to visit and xlnt curator staff to help. A good stop to see what life used to be like in The Ojai.

Pictures and history of Ojai, also a section with portraits of local Ojai people. The gentleman volunteer was friendly and helpful. We recognized that one of the portraits was of him. There is a small museum shop, mostly books.

The museum displays were well done and very interesting. The museum is small enough to see in 1/2 to one hour, and is located in the heart of the town.

Very much a hometown feel. Small place, but with all the local history you need. Ran into a wonderful local who knew everything about the town.

We honestly went in here because it was so hot outside but it turned out to be a great little spot. They have a nice art collection out front of the museum and a Chumash interpretive garden out back. Inside they had exhibits including the history of the area, local wildlife, LA Olympics, and the past 100 years of film... More

This is a relatively small museum offering permanent exhibitions of local history including Ojai's huge Motion Picture heritage. Displays of the various movies that were filmed here over the decades were particularly interesting. Admission is $5 (a 2 for one coupon is available in one of the local coupon books).

A resident of 84 years took us around pointing out current sites and often telling us some history or what had stood there 75 years ago.

Came here on a Saturday morning and happened upon a walking tour just about to start. We and our girls 8 and 11 really enjoyed it. Nice weather, low 70s. The guide would lead us short distances to shady areas, most with some sort of seating. Very informative. Included museum entrance afterwards.
