There are lots of great hikes in the Coyote Mountains Wilderness area, this one is the furthest East in the range. Pick up maps and get info on other BLM desert areas at the EL Centro Field Office, 1661 South 4th St. in El Centro or online. I recommend a higher clearance vehicle to get to the trailhead at the... i have took my kids there many times its very good for young riders that are just starting and its very hot during summer so bring lots of water just go there and have fun and please take out what you bring in and keep the place open for the rest of us

I have spent many weekends in Painted Gorge, near Ocotillo, CA. It is a very pleasant and relaxing place, albeit one with no amenities. There is no water, gas, or food for many miles.
