Went there as part of a promotion for the Shrem museum in uc Davis. The exhibit focused on 4 periods in Oakland and east bay. Ranging from Diego Rivera and the 30s to modern day. The exhibit is still on.

Just a block or so away from the Lake Merritt BART station, this incredible museum is hands down the best one I've seen in the SF area. If you enjoy in depth exhibits with lots of hands on learning...this ones for you. We were here from noon till 5 and didn't get to see everything. As a bird watcher, I... More

This place has completely transformed over the years, from a boring trip to museum to an exciting Friday nite spot! Friday nights, they shut the street area off to traffic and line up more than 10 gourmet food trucks. There live music, good vino and it's very family friendly! The fun last from 6pm to 9pm, so it's a good... More

This museum is very family friendly and has been curated with great attention to how to draw in visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The exhibits are nicely arranged. As much as we enjoyed the cafe (yum), live music (awesome), and the art, the gem for us was the history section. This is a must visit museum if you love... More

The museum had various stages of culture and art, and a description of the ecosystem in California. My daughter enjoyed the visitor participation when able to draw or touch objects. Some of the exhibits had doors and drawers that her fingers got caught in - painful moment. Had to file a report with the staff. Late night hours, music, and... More

I recently spent afternoon at Oakland Museum. Exhibits are informative and visually appealing with appropriate technology to engage children. California history permanent exhibit is excellent.

A somewhat confusing museum in a building that is so non traditional that it must drive the staff crazy trying to make the exhibits work. Fine art, in an awkward space. Very friendly staff and good parking under the building.

The museum is well designed has a large variety of exhibits and is on par with some of the larger more well known museums in the country. I try to go to museums in most of the Major cities and I don't think you would be disappointed if you've seen other large museums.
