It was nice to walk around this museum. I was there for less than one hour. The parking is discounted when validated, however, if a fire alarm sounds in the museum and it is evacuated as in my case, the clock as far as the parking goes, keeps on ticking - and it cost me twice what it should have... Always an interesting collection, whether permanent or temporary. Friday nights are the best for food trucks, music, and half price on museum entry.

The Oakland museum has art, history, natural history, beautiful outdoor spaces, and great special exhibitions, all to do with California and all terrific and unusual. They are open until 9PM Fridays, with live music, dancing and great food. There's truly something for everyone here. Come with kids, teens, friends, or just spend some time on your own. You cannot go... More

Science floor is wonderful. Art is ever changing overview of California artists and scenes. Make sure you pull out the drawers in the file cabinets that are in many rooms - special treasure in these such as Dorthea Lange proof sets and cameras. The California history floor is without match. The Oakland Museum should be on everyone who lives in... More

We joined the Oakland Museum after our visit because we can't wait to visit again and again. Plus we can now take guests! We really enjoyed the special bee exhibit and the rest of the natural history museum. They did an outstanding job on the remodel. Our next visit will include the rest of the museum. We like to take... More

The exhibits were well spaced, with intriguing background info, and, as an example of the quality of the items on display, a sparkling 19th century horse drawn fire engine with steam-driven water pump. Friday evening it's open until 9 p.m. and at half price entry, too!

This Museam has everything! I just love the layout! The top floor is art from California artists. The middle is the history of California. It is set up chronology so you can walk right through the evolution of the state. And the lower floor is the Natural science of the state. You start at the ocean and travel through all... More

Yes, a free pass if you hold a California library card (go to their web site and get the pass for the day it is valid - you need to take it with you). It saves you both the entry cost and the parking cost. A great deal! The zoo itself is very small (as zoos go) and you won't... More

This is well worth the effort of taking the BART if you are in San Francisco. IT has a beautiful building, great views of the local lake but best of all very well curated galleries on the history of California. The art is also good and well presented. They do have the 'don't have a backpack' on fetish expecting us... More

Favorite part is natural history because the exhibits have the whole ecosystem, plants and animals together. History of Oakland/California a close second with the Black crowned night heron who used to try to catch the koi in the pool right up there but I think no longer around.
