Great choice in an area where there is not much choice!

They usually have a nice daily special and some soup/sandwich offerings with live piano or other music softly playing. It's all about the atmosphere!

Very good exhibition of the progression of Cali culture that achieves an inclusive approach along the way. Always has interesting new exhibits as well. An Oakland gem!

History and art combine here along with lovely terraced gardens overlooking Lake Merritt. A good place to spend the afternoon if in Oakland.

OMCA is the best Friday night party in town. There is free live music and dancing. They serve beer and wine and there's always an activity for children so everyone is happy. The "Off the Grid" food trucks are next to the museum so you can get a plate of food and a beer. The entrance fees are reduced and... More

My daughter and I took my mom to the OM to satisfy the museum field trip requirement for my sculpture class. What a fantastic museum, full of California artists who were new to me. The outdoor sculptures were awesome, and provided lots of opportunities to discuss art among three generations of women. We have already returned twice!

Most of the halls have permanent exhibits, so if you've been there once, there is pretty much it. The History halls has some interesting displays of old Oakland, Bay Area and California. It's a smallish museum but worth at least a visit especially when it's free.

If you're in Oakland, come here! The OMCA has exhibits on natural history, history, and art. It also has a cafe with average food.

There's likely to be something here for people of all ages though oriented to children, we got a lot out of the special exhibits on bees. We had been aware of the plight of these little friends, but it was surprisingly moving to learn how severe it is. Suiseki isn't something everyone can appreciate, but it was enlightening to be... I have been a fan and a member of the Museum for many, many years. Excellent art and history exhibits, with easy parking in a great spot of Oakland. Next to Lake Merritt and Oakland's Chinatown ( grab lunch there!).
