I grew up living near this very large Regional park. It has many features for families, including a merry go round, little train ride, farm, horse rides, a swimming lake, caves to climb and explore(dangerous!), a botanical garden, a golf course, and miles of trails.

This is another local family favorite. As a child, my family would head to Tilden almost every weekend. We would pack a lunch. My parents would read the newspaper while my brother and I played in the grass. After lunch, we would hit up the steam train, the little farm and if I was lucky - we would get a... More

There's a nice loop around the lake. There is also a nice lodge onsite, and you can schedule meetings there, too.

We were surprised at the quality of the information at the education center. We had passed by it numerous times, never stopping in. Don’t make the same mistake. There is some quality information and interesting dioramas here regarding the history and ecology of the Wildcat Creek watershed. There is also information on the various parts of Tilden Park and brochures... More

Tilden has everything you want for a day-long picnic/party to overnight camping. The weather up here on the hill tends to be on the cool/cooler side so you want to bring a few 'Bay Area' layers. My favorite aspect of the park is the loop trail near the Little Farm that takes you to Jewel Lake. Serene and gentle walking... More

Tilden has a wonderful Jr Ranger program for kids to learn all about nature. It is in a beautiful setting with lots of hiking trails and picnic tables. There is an AC Transit bus that comes to a stop near the nature center for those lacking a car.

Tucked away in the Berkeley/Oakland Hills is a little gem of a park. Great for families with kids of all ages or for a solo hike/walk to explore and enjoy nature. There's so much to do and see here. Favs remain the Merry-go-Round and little park train that continue to delight. Great also for an impromptu picnic! Add it to... More

For young elderly the walk around Jewel Lake and visit to the Little Farm is ideal. Level walking Paths great for strollers. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the green lawns near the parking lot. Nature Center is the icing on the cake...good bathrooms, fine exhibits and souvenirs. For dog lovers the Inspiration Pt walk is a good workout. You... More

This area is where the little railroad in located as well as a great merry-go-round and hiking trails and picnic areas. It is located in the hills above Berkeley and the views are great of both the SF Bay and east to the Contra Costa hills and Mt. Diablo.
