This place is beautiful. I went in during afternoon Mass and this place is simply breathtaking. They have a free tour Monday-Friday @ 1:00pm

Much of European tourism is spent visiting churches where some of the great religious art is contained. If you are visiting Oakland, take a similar approach and visit this beautiful building in the heart of downtown. There is no great art other than the building itself. The interior is an open, airy, glass nave with an enormous glass painting/sculpture of... More

I never thought there's such a beautiful church in the Bay Area. This is so unique and not traditional. I like to visit this church whenever I am in Oakland.

Certainly not like Notre Dame in Paris. I'm not sure how moving it is for the faithful but it is truly interesting space

Want to get a break from the bustle of your mind and the city come here and find a place for quiet contemplation. There are free tours during the week at 1:00pm and concerts a plenty. There is a 100 year-old Steinway and a brand new organ that is a knock-out. The Bishop is friendly and the priests speak Spanish... More

Take the tour. It's an interesting new structure and looks great at that end of Lake Merritt. The aluminum sheet enthroned Christ is a pixilated image that throws light to the city at night and takes in sunlight during the day.

Whats wrong with the Catholic Church. Don't they have better things to do with all the money they have. Maybe they could feed the sick or educate the poor or feed the hungry with all the money they spent on this ugly building on the lake in Oakland. They close other neighborhood churches, close schools in poor neighborhoods and pay... More

Cathedral O, Manager at The Cathedral of Christ the Light, responded to this review

The Catholic Church throughout the diocese offers a range of service ministries assisting the elderly, the young, the poor, and the oppressed. As such the Church is the largest provider of social services in the East Bay, delivering shelter, meals, counseling, education and other critical services free of charge to over 400,000 people of all faiths each year. The Cathedral... More

Very unlike any of the Cathedrals I have visited in Europe, but it is definitely worth the visit. Try to take a tour while you are there.

That's it No More to Say! Got to be designed by a architect who hates the Catholic Church. Also who ever approved it must be really strange.
