A Place to Relax

Much thought was put into making this Asian influenced garden retreat a beautiful place in which to take a break.

October 2015 was the fourth annual Festival of the Lights, and the turnout had built so that thousands attended. I waited in line for 45 minutes to get in, and I had purchased a ticket in advance. The crowd was mostly very attractive young people in their 20's and 30's attending with friends and dates... many came over from San... More

I visited late summer. Gardens were in full bloom. Seating spaces were conducive to meditation, reading, resting. Very well laid out and even though there were several summer childrens groups visiting, their was not interference for a quiet walking visit.

I love this garden area in the middle of Lake Merritt. They have some beautiful displays and great classes on certain weekends.

This is a hidden gem- check out the bonsais. They even offer classes to teach you how to make them. It's great to check out- and I always enjoy a walk around the lake

If you want a place in Oakland to just sit and read, or enjoy the beauty of flowers and plants, hard to beat Lakeside Park and Garden Center. It includes a community garden, a scented garden for the blind and others interested in the smell of beauty, a banzai garden, a Japanese garden, and lots of benches tucked away along... More

Yes, anything with flowers, trees, animals, so beautiful, at least to me! Good place to admire the beauty of flowers, trees! Thank you dear Lord for creating so many beautiful animals, flowers, trees! As once told Nickolas Flitsch (OCTOPUS) at Sheraton Grand Sacra Hotel, "I not notice many restaurants, I notice nature!" When walk from Sacra Salvation Army back to... More

We enjoyed going to this delightful Lakeside Park and Garden Center by Lake Merritt. We parked in the lot by the garden area (it was inexpensive at $2.00 for a couple of hours), so had time to wander the delightful gardens. They are well maintained and a perfect place to see the flowers in bloom. There are all types of... More

This is a lovely garden with seasonal displays and is a part of the overall Lake Merritt locale. See Lake Merritt review to learn more of the area.

This is a lovely corner of Lake Merritt which has sections devoted to bonsai, native plants, aromatic gardens and a host of plants. Visitors to Oakland are well advised to "walk the lake" like we natives do and be sure to stop at the gardens.
