We have seen Lake Merritt improve to be the nice area it is today. We visited again today and enjoyed a walk along the lake; there were people running as well as parents/guardians with their children. We enjoyed seeing that the ducks and geese enjoy the lake too. We parked in the lot by the Lake Merritt Garden Center. Parking... More

A great way to spend an hour or a day. I walk there often. I've never seen drug problems. It seems as totally safe as any place can nowadays. A cross section of Oaklanders, Black, Brown, White, Mixed, old, young, straight , gay, families, singles, groups having BBQ's, martial arts, practicing, etc. This is the oldest bird sanctuary in the... Shame on you if you visit Oakland and you don't find time to walk the 2.9 miles around Lake Merritt. In a few short years, Oakland has transformed this lake into a sparkling blue jewel in the center of downtown Oakland. You will see brand-new sidewalks, benches, lights, bathrooms, huge art sculptures, mosaic tiled "art" trashcans and fantastic landscaping. No,... More

Good area to get some exercise. Most of the time it is pretty safe with lots of people out walking or running the lake. They have done a lot of improvements around the lake area and it looks good.

Lake Merritt in the heart of Oakland is a wonderful spot for people of all ages. The 3.5 miles of sidewalks that ring the lake offer joggers, walkers, families with strollers and photo buffs a grand spot for an outing. The lake was redone a few years ago with a 1/3 billion dollar revamping of the entire site, The lake... More

Neat lake in the center of Oakland with several mile circumference and great walking path around the water. Check out the wild life reserve with ducks and geese! My favorite part of the walk is the bunch of food trucks at the east end which supply a diverse mix of ethnic foods. Great for families, pickniking, biking, running and games!... More

Picturesque lake with several park areas sounding it. Always have an excellent time here, whether it's for a picnic, a jog, or just a stroll. The bathrooms aren't always open, though. So be warned! :)
