My visit: So, for anyone who has ever visited Oakland, undoubtedly, you have heard or read about the famous Jack London. If you venture down to Jack London Square, which is located at the foot of Broadway, you will see a cabin, which was occupied by Jack London during his stay in Alaska. The cabin itself was transported to this... More

San Francisco - Oakland Ferry stops here. Amtrak has a nice station. The USS Potomac is here. But otherwise, there's not much of a reason for a visitor to hang out at JLS. No special restaurants that can't be found elsewhere. Movie theater is to be avoided. JLS isn't a bad place, but it's nothing special. It's "AVERAGE" in an... More

JL Square is still trying to b a local and tourist destination. It could become really cool, but it hasn't happened yet. The farmers market on Sunday is small but nice. Too many empty storefronts and the surrounding neighborhood needs to get gentrified. Get some hip restaurants, art galleries etc. Perhaps if they tie it into nearby areas like ChinaTown,... More

Oakland is trying to bring their reputation up and out of the gang tag gutter and Jack Loundon Square is a good start. We stay at the Waterfront when ever we come to the area. There's space to walk around and several resturants to choose from. The Ferry to San Fran comes here and that makes it a super convenient... More

This is a very nice waterfront park, great for residents to relax and enjoy a nice day. But there is not a lot to this park to draw tourists from outside. The farmers market was similar to the one in my home town (20K people), but by 2:45 most of the vendors were pretty much packed up. One thing I... More

But, not much to do. They have 7 restaurants, a hotel or two, a theater, and the ferry that crosses the Bay between Oakland and San Francisco. Other than that, I don't know what the draw is...

It is a great location to have as a base of seeing the Oakland and surrounding area. There are restaurants to select based on your interests. The movie theater is close by as well as other shops to visit and help the local economy.

We enjoyed walking around Jack London Sq. It's right on the bay! There is a great Farmer's Market on Sunday morning! We took the ferry from there into San Francisco. What a beautiful ride!

Walking down to the waterfront is wonderful with a large boulevard and some nice eateries with inside/outside seating. We went on a hot night and had great pizzas and dips. Be warned that you may have to wait we had a 20 min wait and we're told 45 min wait for at table at another restaurant so book before hand.... More
