Fun place to visit

You can learn a bit of history about the man himself Jack London. You can also have a fine meal at many of the local restaurants or even catch the ferry over to San Francisco

Anyone who is a Jack London fan needs to one day be here. His original cabin has been placed here and the saloon that he frequented is still open. The square features all kinds of shops, restaurants, bars, a local farmers' market, play area, view of the Bay...nice to walk around and nice to pay homage to a great author... More

I wouldn't recommend Oakland as an holiday destination but if you're visiting San Francisco it's worth popping over the bay and visiting Jack London Square. The area is clean, modern and has plenty of bars and restaurants, a ferry service over to San Francisco and good views across the bay. The Amtrak station is just down the road.

This place is wonderful no matter what the occasion. Whether you're on a date there are plenty of romantic things to do, like grab food at a nice restaurant, or go wine tasting. You can even take a ferry from there to SF. They also have things you can do with the family, like go bowling and play pool and... More

we used Jack London square twice as our jumping off point for a trip to San Fran. The ferry ride is absolutely delightful. You end up at Pier 41 close to Fisherman's wharf Spend the whole day in San Fran and return at night with all the city lights ablaze. And when you get back if you validated your ticket... More

Jack London was an amazing author. He sacrificed his life in the wilderness of Alaska to give the world wonderful stories. I never knew he was a native son of Oakland, a far cry from the rugged Alaskan terrain. The log cabin he lived in while up North has been reestablished in the square of his namesake. Truly it is... Spent a whole evening there with friends and their kids. Very laid back atmosphere, several restaurants and bars available, and amazing views of the harbor looking into Alameda island.

I am a lifelong resident of the greater Oakland area. As a young adult it was a treat to be taken to one of the restaurants there. It had the most upscale concentration of restaurants in Oakland. Over the next several decades the area gradually declined. There are too many unsavory characters on the streets. The restaurants have become overpriced... More
